Sixty new cases of Tuberculosis have been discovered in Salt Lake County so far this year, it was reported Thursday by Franklin K. Brough, executive director of the Utah Tuberculosis and Health Association. Since TB cases continue to be reported at a steady pace throughout Utah, Christmas Seals are needed to continue the fight against the disease, Brough explained. They are a reminder that there are undetected TB cases spreading the disease to healthy and unsuspecting persons, and that we must do what we can to protect our families and community. g education, research, g and programs cannot continue unless Christmas Seal contributions are received in sufficient quantity to make the work effective, Brough said. Brough expressed the appreciation of the board of directors of the TB Association to the many county residents who have answered their Christmas Seal letters with a contribution, and urged others not to put off their help in the TB fight. Hello Grandpa! Merry Christmas . . . from loved ones far away. Over seven million people will be placing long distance calls on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day to mother or aunt Mary, sisters or brothers, W. J. Twelves, manager here for the Mountain States Telephone Company, said today. Long distance telephone lines are always busy on Christmas, not because of the large number of calls placed, but rather because of the places called. More than seven million calls are completed without delay almost every business day throughout the Bell System, but most of these are from one metropolitan area to another. On Christmas, however, most calls go to small communities throughout the nation. While there are hundreds of lines from Salt Lake, Ogden, and Provo to larger cities of the country, there are relatively few from there to the small rural communities, where Dad and Mother still live. There may be many unused circuits between the larger cities, but the few lines out to the small towns become overloaded and calls must wait their turn. It would be impractical for the telephone companies to install hundreds of new lines to be used only one or two days of each year, W. J. Twelves said. So we do the best we can by temporary rearrangements of circuits to complete as many calls as possible without a delay. W. J. Twelves said, that holiday calls can be completed more quickly if the persons placing them would call by number and call station-to-statio- It takes extra n. time for the information operator in a distant city to look up the number or complete a person-to-perso- n call. Methodist Church To Present Christmas Play The MIS group of the Trinity Methodist Church under the direction" of Mrs. Allan Carlson, will present for the public an hour and one-hashow Saturday, December 19th at the Church at 7 p.m. The play entitled The Other Shepherd, has a message for everyone. Included in the cast are: Linda Cabesa, Terry Thomas, Marsha King, Ray Morris Gray, Sharon and Karon Andrews, like and Mike Morrow, Johnny Bridge, Judy Hoffman, and Carolyn Baker. is Stacey Their accompanist Thurman. lf Reduced long distance rates will go into effect at 6 p.m. on Christmas Eve and last throughout Christmas day and until 4:30 a.m. on December 26th. While everyone likes to take advantage of reduced rates, one of the surest ways of getting a call through during this busy time is to place it Christmas Eve before 6 oclock even though it costs a little more. A call on reduced rates Sunday, December 20th, might be given consideration, W. J. Twelves said.
