| Show executive correspondence TREASURY department october jtb 18 1858 SIR sin I 1 acknowledge the receipt of your comma ni cation tinder under date of the ath ultimo relative to disbursement for clerk hire out of the contingent funds in your hands as governor of the territory of utah and in reply reply have to state that you are hereby authorize authorized to compensate the person employed as your clerk as instructed by the first comptroller of the treasury under date of the loth sept 1857 viz to pa pax pay the balance remaining over and above suck buci buch such expenditures to a clerk or clerks or so much thereof as has been found to be necessary taking care not to expend any more than the amount appropriated in a fiscal year I 1 am very respectfully 71 HOWELL OWELL COBB secretary of the treasury lion hox A cummi GUMMING rf G governor of the the territory of utah great salt lake city U T EXECUTIVE OFFICE utah great salt lake city april ad 1 1860 GENTLEMEN I 1 have seen recently certain published statements calculated to produce a false impression upon the public mind in in regard to the disbursement of the contingent fund funa of this office I 1 therefore request that you will publish the enclosed letter of instructions from the lion howell cobb secretary of the treasury as also this note owing to peculiar circumstances I 1 deemed it most expedient to request my wife to act in the cat caf capacity acety of confidential clerk that portion 0 of my accounts which embrace the compensation pensa tion for the services of a clerk were suspended for explanation by the comptroller at the suggestion of the hon john cradlebaugh those explanations have been given and I 1 presume will prove satisfactory respectfully A CUMMING GUMMING |
