Grace Heggler Lewis today started proceedings before the Nevada supreme court in an effort to secure $1000 a month alimony as originally provided in a Reno divorce decree TERMS RECALLED When the divorce was granted to Grace Heggler Lewis April 16 1928 on a charge of desertion an agreement was adopted by the parties It provided that Lewis would establish a $50000 trust fund for a son of the couple and that he would' pay Mrs Lewis $1000 a month so long as she did not marry and his income did not fall below $48000 a old year Some time later Lewis who in the meantime had married Dorothy author and lecturer Thompson came to Reno and secured a modification of the agreement The $1000 a month payment was reduced to $200 a month with the further provision that at the end cf each year he wrould pay the balance based of his income for upon the preceding twelve month period He nleaded that he was engaged in writing a new novel with labor as its theme and that the new work would so occupy his time that his annual income would necessarily drop to little more than 10000 until the book was produced HATRED ALLEGED In her appeal from the Reno court modification reducing the payments one-four- th Mrs Lewis today charged that Lewis’ reason foi seeking such modification was not because of his alleged of income but because lesser “chanee of feeling and attitude toward her" She charged that he has displayed “hatred resentment and antipathy" toward her since the divorce Mrs Lewis asks that the sunrem° court return to force the original order providing $1000 a month alimony
