annual report I 1 must crave your vo ar indulgence for its imperfections the lick lack of information herein in is owing owing to circumstances entirely beyond my control I 1 the act of the Leois legislature lature providing for the appointment of auditor of public Acco accounts unta makes it the duty of every person having the handling of the public funds either in collecting in or disbursing the same to make a report auditor on or before the first day of october in each year I 1 That provision of abe statute has been but partially complied with the counties of weber I 1 utah otah and millard not dot having yet reported to this office the auditor depends almost entirely upon the r reports or t s of the several officers of the territory Tox for t the h e requisite information to enable him to make a complete and satisfactory report of the revenue ex expenditures p endi tures and liabilities of the government the following table will show the amount of taxable property and otherwise the sum of 75 76 showing an amount of delinquencies of 11 this delinquency is owing in a great measure 8 to the small amount of money in in circulation among the people the tr treasurers treasur ers books show an amount received into the treasur treasury from the date of the last report from this oace office on the ad day of january to the day of march last of 5 7 17 53 the books do expended X ended under the direction of the territorial riar commissioner by A P rockwood supervisor of roads in G S SL L county the bridge over the sevier is completed and accepted and orders have been issued from this office for 2000 on the treasury of which 73 have been paid leaving a balance due to T B foot on that contract of 1627 27 there have been 2 miles of the cottonwood canal put under contract at 1225 and one mile and 4 40 rods of the same at both of these contracts were let to R W wolcott on these jobs there have been orders issued on the treasury from this office for of this amount have been paid the work is rapidly pro grossing grassing the state abad around utah mountain is under contrast to philander bell for the sum of 1500 this work is also steadily progressing the work in salt creek kanyon kany on has not no been accepted or appraised there has been a practicable road opened to the coal bed in coal creek kanyon in iron county on which 84 have been expended there is is also 34 of the taxes for the years 1851 and 1852 still on hand but it is thought expedient I 1 not to lay the gonei money out until next spring I 1 there will necessarily be bomea some 6 or 8 crossings of the creek cre e and the estimated coltof cost of the bridging is from 1500 to 1800 I 1 the state road north from malloris Mal lorys to bear river a distance of 31 34 3 4 miles has been surveyed and located at an expense of 40 there has been no application by mr gaunt to draw from the treasury any portion of the amount appropriated to his use by the legislature of last year for the completion of the woollen factory there has as yet brenno been no report to this office of the expenses of the cottonwood canal under the administration of gardners gardeners Gard ners the
