western new york we travelled travail edn nearly early fifteen hundred miles mostly on fodi foot and nd arrived in jackson coilty county missouri in the beginning of tb the e year 1831 having pre preached ached the gospel and left the book of mormon with the Cater augus indians indiana near buffalo N Y and arid with the ohp wi an dots of ohio we e also p preached reached the gosiel and established the church in kirtland Kirt lard ohio ohl and arid the regions regiana round about consisting of several hundred members among whom were sidney rig do lon ion Is isaac c morley john february ame same year T I 1 took leave of f my my fellow laborers in jackson count county 4 and travelled travelle 12 mostly on foot to kirtland ohio nearly one thousand miles where I 1 arrived so some me time in march diero here I 1 met with president joseph smith who enquired of the ibe lord and received commandment man dment for me to preach the gospel and visit he churches in the regions r around lound a 11 which I 1 did u until 1 the conference at at kirtland held june in which president joseph smith by the word of god pod ordained me with many others to the high priesthood and arid received a revel revelation a llon lion for me and my brother orson orpo and many others to journey two and two to the western bounds of missouri Misso uri preaching and baptizing I 1 by the way f t I 1 we started in jude june performed this ja journey on foot organized several churches by the way and ald arrived in it western massou missouri in october of the sala saiA same bame year from this next winter in company with elder W E Mc mcclellin Lellin I 1 performed a mission on 04 foot through missouri and lind inta green gleen county illinois where we preached reached with much success di distance about six hundred miles in going and returning about the first of june I 1 returned home born e devoted my rny time among the tife churches and in pre siding over X school of Elder dis sis did in afon t n andin and in ab oring I 1 my b hands ano and in the autumn of 1833 1 I was driven out of 0 jackson county with the rest of the church I 1 at the loss of my home I 1 took refuge in clay july 1 in ill this thia journey I 1 hlad bad had traveled by land near four thousand miles from this till october I 1 spent the time in laboring with mafli my ands hands i on the ath of october in compliance with a revelation through the thi prophet joseph I 1 started started with mith my wife for kirtland ohio at A ter journeying near one thousand miles with a horse borse team we stopped for the winter at new portage within fifty miles of kirtland here nere I 1 dev devoted doted my time diligently in the ministry and in la laboring borine with my hands until F february 1835 when I 1 repaired to kirtland february 1835 I 1 was ordained one of the twelve apostles under tinder the habas hands of joseph seph smith sinith and others I 1 then immediately returned to new portage settled my affairs and returned again to kirtland to join the twelve on a mission eastward may eth we started his this bis mission the season beason beason son was spent in preaching visiting the churches holding conferences etl etc in in the e eastern steart states tates august found us in in the state of maine and in september we returned to kirtland the winter was spent in the school of the prophets in in the of the lord in april 1836 Y X took a mission to canada and na labored through the season in in the city oi of toronto and round about which mission resulted in the baptism bim fim and ordination of johy johi taylor joseph fielding and others and rn the gather ing into the church of many souls in october of I 1 th the e same year I 1 returned beturne d to kirtland ap spent ent the winter at hor hoi I 1 on the 2 ath 0 of f march 1837 my my son parley was born in in fulfillment of a prophecy delivered on the head of my wife about eleven months previous by elder il C kimball H having avik avil lived I 1 to 0 see and embrace her child she died about two hours after his birth in an the spring of 1837 soon after the death of my wife I 1 return returned ef to canada on a short I 1 m mission to the saints during 0 which several of the canadian elders viz joseph field fielding ngi nai isaac russell john snyder and john goodson we were selected for a mission to england they driven fim the state anthe on the fourth of jul jui july 71 1839 1 I gained my freedom by the power of god after eight months and four days imprisonment and escaped to illinois I 1 found my family in company with elders B young II 11 C In indall ball bail 0 pratt fratt and others we had bad a rough p passage asa aba of 0 twenty eight days and on the sixth day of april landed in liver 7 iver lver pool we colv convened enad a general conference at preston on the of apri april in which elders I 1 B young H 11 C kimball and myself were appointed a publishing committee for the church I 1 was waa also appointed editor and publisher of a monthly periodical to be called the millennial start STAR the first number of which was issued in may following A 1 lek tek I 1 continued in this publishing
