force whenever their lawless passions directed that our towns now DOW swarm with these thess reckless desperadoes whay what who under the very eyes of government officials stalk among amon our free citizens armed to the teeth with bo bowie bowle wie knife and revolver that the eov cov eminent officers on the one hand invite and receive recene and arm and encourage the hirelings of the slave siave power as they swarm in in our territory while on the other hand band not government officials nor government troops but these same hireling marauders take it upon themselves unmolested to sto stop the ingress into our territory of peaceable emigrants from the free states mho who they have reason to believe sympathize with the downtrodden and oppressed people of kansas we now call upon the government of the united states to respect the rights of the majority in in kansas as well as the views and ambitious designs of southern slave holders and ami politicians and should we fail in this we will then tilen appeal to the freemen of the nation for aid and arid support and relying upon almighty god and the justice of our cause will take up arins in ih our own defence and solemnly and house of representatives to the governors of the several states and the various presses throughout the count country rv the following preamble and resolutions were also offered and arid accepted whereas the government of the united stat states es is is a government of the people and whereas she reas the laws of our government have wisely provided ample means of removing removing froin from office any person holding ollice office under the t it e laws of the united states who shall be guilty guilt v of any misdemeanor or malpractice in office and whereas judge judg 6 lecompte decoi li p e has 11 ds been guilty of hi high 9 11 misdemeanor in fit office as jud judge jude 0 e of the tile first fust district DL Strict of kansas territory such as not riot to be suffered by a free peo pe representatives of the united stat states es well authenticated by alfid affidavits aits alts charging the tile said judge lecompte with high misdemeanors in office and request that hie ile the lie of represent t stives prefer articles of impeachment to the I 1 honorable ono rable rabie the senate of the tile united states against I 1 the said judge lecompte for his removal from office as judge of the tile pit fit fust st judicial district of the territory of kahus kansas resolved that a committee of five be appointed to collect means and construct a passable wagon road from nebraska city to some available point on 0 n the kansas kangas river for the of arranging and expediting the travel of emigrants into the state of kansas |
