pleasure ire of addressing you a few moments this morning this grand audience c aught to be an ail inspiration to anyone I 1 feel heanly however the responsibility of attempt attempting dirig tirig to interest you because I 1 realize fully that the instructions you receive during important periods of your lives will have much to do in the forming of your future lives you are now building superstructure upon which your future acts roust must rest and the way you build this superstructure per structure will determine your success or failure in life it will be my pleasure tor for a few moments this morning to say ai few words upon what I 1 consider to be one of t the prime factors in laying the foundation oun dation of a character which will either cither bring honor success ind and happiness or dishonor failure and destruction you have all heard of habit and that repeated maxium habit Is a cable we weave a thread ot of it each day and soon it becomes so strong wb we cannot break it but jt t is as true now as it was when it was first uttered and will continue to be as true throughout the endless ages of eternity habit is what makes society what it is we are what we ive are because of our habits and I 1 want to tell you my young friends what you voil are to be you are now becoming what I 1 am to be I 1 am now becoming remember intakes it takes time lime and opportunity to make character arabit is the architect that builds the feeble rudimentary powers of 0 the child into the strong developed powers of the full grown man it if our vague purposeless movements give place to definite movements if our sensations become more definite if our perceptions become clearer it if our memories reason more correctly and logically if our actions become more clearer it is because ot of habit this is ia seen in the first beginning to walk in the cyclist first beginning to ride in the musician first beginning to play in the speaker first beginning to speak the child has to w watch itch every step the cyclist has to give his entire attentions tent teat ions to his wheel the musician lias has to watczy where he puts ers while he slowly spells out tile the notes the speaker stumbles over his words as he thinks ot of what lie he wants to say but young friends heinemyer heni hein ember that the continued repetition of these acts will enable us to acquire a skill which will finally seem a sort of second nature and all thru habit one author has said that a man without habit would remain an ail infant thru life and would be as helpless as unhandy as speechless and as much a child at three score as at three now what does this all mean it means that every time we perform any action whether mental or physical we are better capable under similar circumstances of performing that action again it means that every time we think pure and do good deeds it is easier for us to think and do them again it means that every time we think bad tho trots is and do bad deeds it is easier to think and do them again it further means that we learn to think by thinking and we learn to do by doing and it profits profi tsi us nothing to have others do our thinking and doing tor for us as is elbert hubbard tells fells us it is what we think and what we are think the then n how important habit is the habits we form now determine our usefulness in life you young people have two roads before you it if you think good shots and do good deeds aou QU will inevitably follow the road which leads to success and happiness on oil tile the other hand if you think bad thoas and do bad deeds you will inevitably follow the road which leads lead to failure and disgrace which road are you going to follow some may say we e are young and have plenty of time it is true six months or a year ago we see tho the same principle in nat nature ure it if you want to train a tree to grow g row in any certain direction you begin while it Is young because it Is active pliable
