Earl, 177 South Second East St. Mrs. Carter was born Feb. 5, in Northhamptonshire, 1860 son-in-la- w ' England, a daughter of James W. and Sarah Adelaide Wilmer Sheffield. The family moved to London when she was one year old, where her father worked as a shoemaker and also presided over several branches of the Church of Jesus. Christ of Latter-da- y Saints in England. They landed in Castle Gardens, N. Y., and boarded th.t train to come west, settling in Brigham City. Here Mrs. Carter's father worked in the United Order under Pres. Lorenzo Snow. She was married in 1877 to Simeon D. Carter, whose father was the first family to settle In Brigham City, by President Snow. In February, 1889, the marriage was solemnized in the Logan Temple. Ir May, 1882, the Carters moved to 27 South Fifth Est, where most of their children were born. Mr. and Mrs. Carter spent 60 years of happy married life and on their sixtieth wedding anniversary, March 13, 1937, the family and friends gathered at the home of Vera C. Earl for a banquet and program. The following month, April 8, 1937, Mr. Carter died. As Mrs. Carter watches the growth of the state along lines of education, road building, architecture and density of population, she loves to recount incidents of the same phases of development., ACTIVE IN CHURCH She was Relief Society teacher for 40 years, taught religion class, worked on the Old Folks' committee or many years and In times when they put on ward dinners, Mn- - Carter did more than her share. She has spent many hours nursing the sick and making burial clothes. She has three daughters and one son: Mrs. Vilate Carter Primrose, Vallejo, Calif.; Simeon Wilmer Carter, Ogden i Mrs. Heber D.
