Mexican Plazas Point Way To Healthful Relaxation BY JOSEPHINE Wednesday at high Ruth Jaques, daughter 'and Mrs. Delbert Jaques, and LaMar Hatch, sgn of of Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Hatch, were married to the Salt Lake Temple Elder David Broad-ben- t officiated at the ceremony. A reception was held In the evening at the East Layton Ward hall. Attending the bride were Miss Maurine Wood, maid of honor, and Miss Elda Jaques, OGDEN LOWMAN Perhaps the most characteristic feature of any Mexican city or town is the plaza in the center of it. The larger cities haVe several plazas while even the most ramshackle little village probably will have one small one. There is a band stand in the center of these plazas and on regular evenings music swells the breeze to soften the burdens and lift the spirit of everyday ,men and women. ' To me, the small plaza in the middle of an extremely poor community, is a grand gesture of defiance toward the hardships of human existence. No matter how poor the people may be- - nor 'how littte hope they may have of better circumstanc- es, they still keep their music,' their good fellowship and their laughter, t The artistry of the Mexican people is not confined to its museums and castles. It virtually seeps out of the Sidewalks. You find it in the most unexpected places. It may come out of a saloon or a .very modest home or a stand at the market. The people are artists to theirflnger tips and they love color and romance. . The larger plazas, on promenade night, are lovely indeed. Flowers grow with wasteful abandon, the band plays tauntand ingly nostalgic melodies as not there Is just as likely a yellow moon swung low in the sky. One would have to be ' a Woman of stone in order not , to respond to the mood of a Mexican plaza on promenade ' night! In our rush and strain and hurry and high pressure we have lost something Which the Mexican people have kept. I can only wonder If the loss was worthwhile and can only hope that the efficiency and commer-- j cialism and increased stand-- ! ards of living have been worth the price we paid for them. Anyway, I 'believe that ft would bring happiness to all of us to keep a little of the spirit of Mexico In our hearts, to hurry a little less, to laugh a little more, ,to sing a little oftener, and to develop the spirit of manana to a higher degree. noon Miss of Mr OGDEN Membeis of Martha Junior Society were guests of Martha Society at a program and tea at the Gables Tea Room on Monday afternoon. In answering this I can say that your only obligation is to be a considerate and appreciative guest.
