Before and after Mrs. Myers and I addressed the elementary teachers of Atlanta, Georgialast winter, ye noticed that many of them were mentioned as Mrs." So and So. later I asked Dr. Wil-to- r Suttomrthe stipertntendenfof schools there, about it, and thf following .18 what he told me: "We have never felt that 'Whether a teacher was married or single, rich or poor, lived In one section or the other, should be the determining factor as to who should teach our children. "We have always believed that the best teacher we could secure within the means allowed was the teacher we wanted to teach our children, whether married or single from Kalamazoo or Atlanta. For many years we have had no regulation against em-- ploying married teachers, or that one must resign if she married. Such rules were in effect .when I became superintendent, and we lost some of our best teachers. That Is the reason I had it . changed. GIVE MATERNITY LEAVES We encourage our teachers to have families by granting three years maternity leave, A place is reserved for such teachers ' if Jhey wish to return at the end . c . When these tiny cells of the foliage become choked with dust, then the plant suffers for waht of air. Just as members of the human family suffer when anything interferes with proper breathing. Plants breathe In carbon monoxide from the air, and they throw, off oxygen, reversing completely the 'process of breathing-adone by man. This is accomplished entirely wltlr their leaves, so we see how Important It becomes to keep these free from dust, and grime. -- ' Remove your plants fromHjielr regular place In the window and take them right out to the kitchen sink where they can be washed off and sprayed or sponged until their leaves are bright and clean. Cleansing is especially necessaray for the smooth-leave- d plants, and for ferns. They need this bath to keep the breathing cells open once each week. In order to be in the best of health. ' There are a few plants that do In not need this foliage-bat- h, fact they are constituted so that they may resent it. Usually these are hairy or downy leaved. Nature has already provided the fine hairs or fuzz to filter the dust out of the air, and so these downy-leaveplants do not need, nor should .receive a spray or bath of anysort. Such plants as the gloxina, with lt velvety foliage when examined will show that Its leaves are covered with a fine coat of velvety hairs.
