Jennifer Jones makes one movie about every No years. And so on, right down the line. I had lunch recently with Donna Reed. who still doesn't know what she said or did when her name was called at this for year's Academy prize-givinthe best supporting performance by an attress, as Alma Clift's girl in Montgomery "From Here To Eternity." Won't Wait Its going to be 'differOnt this time," said Donna, when , warned of the oblivion that can follow the winner of an Oscar. "You see, I'm not going to wait for the great picture to follow. That's what happens when you, win an award. You must ,want something Just as good to follow. But I'll take what comes!! Donna has completed three pictures since Eternity""Gun Fury," "White Feather" and "The Gunslinger," all westerns. And she recently wound up her contract with Columbia. "I had four more years to go," she said. "But I'm one of the few who didn't have to fight or pay Columbia to leave the studio." Donna is currently set for a picture at Metroa good role but, as she says, not likely to, win her another award. She plays Elizabeth Taylor's sister in "The Last Time I Saw Paris." College Play It was Metro which signed Donna when she appeared in a play at Los Angeles City College in 1940. She was under contract for nine years. "And I could have stayed oni there at a salary raise, but they didn't have anything for me.' That wasn't the only reason I left them though. I was expecting a baby, and I wanted to have the baby on my own time. Afterward, it was question ofr survival as an actress.. Now I'm sure I don't have to worry." In most of her movies, with the notable exception of "From Here To Eternity," Donna has roles. She beplayed good-gir- l lieves that, in the end, it pays to be good. "Look at Gale Storm. After all the years of struggle, she's now on top of the heap in television and for pictures. And I'm all for Marilyn Monroe. It's encouraging to know that a good girl can make good, because looking like a lady can be a big handicap in Hollywood." Broadway Hopes Donna would like to do a play on Broadway. "But it's disrupting to family life. I'd never leave the children." "Shucks, Miss Garson," Chill replied. "That'd never happen. I :make sagebrush pictures and yi3u're in them carpet movies." There's news for Mr. Wills. Miss Carson is now off the car pets and out in the sagebrush. For her first independent pie--. ture after 13 years at MGM, she's doing "Strange Lady in Town," the story of a woman doctor who comes to a frontier town in New Mexico. The regal redhead has just returned from a location in Tucson, where she rode horses and buckboards and sweltered In the heat-1- 12 degrees in the shade. I think there's a great appeal hi, 'outdoor pictures now, espectally to people who are cooped up, 4n cities. It's a kind of es-capi for them." She said the script grew out 1 of. a conversation she had two years ago with writer Frank Butler.. She had become intrigued with the country around the New Mexico ranch of her husband, Buddy Fogelson. She had done some research into the early Ney Mexican history and discussed it with Butler. Armed with some of her mate. rat, he went ahead with the story. 'Oddly enough, the locations had to be done in Arizona. They looked for places in New Mexico," Miss Carson plained. rBut they found that the Indian pueblos were bristling with TV aerials.
