Reader Criticizes -- T y Un attentive Wives By MABY MARKED Dew Mary Markers I just reread a letter from the woman who belongs to a group of 163 wives who seem to be organized lor '.the sole purpose of having an audience before whom they may criti- " clze their husbands, "They seem to place I very high value on their affections and to be quite unwilling to " part with any sizable portion at least Whef e their husbands ' are concerned. , ' I would like to suggest as pasttme that . they put down a list of the .things for which they might feel that they owed some af-- , lection to their husbands. Financial support for one thing.' ' Earn Living ' 9 ,Some wives may turn up their noses at anything so , jhurtdane, but to one who has Jiad to earn the living for her-sel- f . and her children for a number of years, financial sup-pois no small matter. I feel that most of these 163 .wives must be supported by 'their husbands, else they could ns- rt TODAY'S S PATTERN not have the ieisure to meet and extol themselves and tear down their mates. 1 knew a woman who might have belonged in this group. She helped to make an alcoholic out of her husband. With his first sober breath she would start to nag at him. They got a separation at last and that was a dozen years . ago. During all this time the became better and works about 80 per cent of the time) his money has gone to his wife and children. She has worked very little for a living, and their oldest son was at Jeast 18 before he did anything to help with his own support This father is a handsome and proud man. But he has denied himself everything but the barest necessities for his family. He buys his clothes at second-hanplaces so his wife and children can keep looking nice. Although his salary is good he has never bought. new car. . And what does he get for aH these thousands of dollars he has sent his family all these years? Absolutely nothing. His wife does not live in the same home with him she does not cook for him or sew on a missing button or give him any companionship or affection not even a word of thanks. Bitter Humor One daughter has been mar ried for almost two years and they have never told him. He knows and continues to send her support money to his wife. But with a bitter humor is waiting to see how long it will take his wife to get around to 'that bit of news. It is on the wife, more than anybody else, that the responsibility rests to have an affectionate, serene and well managed household. If she does her part the others will generally do theirs to make it so. A mother needs to sell the good points of each member1 of the family to all the others without being- - too obvious about it. With gentleness andj perseverance she can often help members of her family to overcome faults. But anyway, she can minimize faults Instead of exaggerating them all the time. We all need love and sympathy. L. 4, v d First Time Ever! PENNEY'S-REDUCE- S PRICE ON BRENTWOOD COTTONS FOR THIS FABULOUS EVENT!
