We hope that you are one of those persons who can afford o pay a fee for a service yon feel is essential. This enables these agencies to serve others who cannot afford these minimum fees.AndremembertQO.LJt costs much more than 50c per boy to provide the leadership training and character' building program of the Boy Scouts. Our members subscribe to the Fund through payroll deduction and personal contribution. We believe in doing things a united way. If everyone would participate in and subscribe to the United Fund we could make this world a better place in which to live. Question the satisfaction of helping others. Thou sands of hours are freely given each yeai throughout the year to assure the support and operation of effective services. Report luncheons, annual meetings, plaque award dinners, committee meetings, etc. are all paid for by those attending or d are sponsored by the corporations and individuals. WHY DOES THE UNITED FUND GOAL CONTINUE TO INCREASE ?. Even though times are good, there is an in-- crease in social problems delinquency, divorce, problems of the aging, alcoholism, and many more.Not only are social problems on the increase, but their causes more complex'; making these problems harder to resolve. Only through effective UF services can wehope to over-come these problems and thus prevent the high cost of caring for people later through relief expenditures. Agencies within the United Fund follow a very comprehensive budgetings pattern. Early in the spring of each year, agencies are asked to describe their program and needs for the coming calendar year .This e Budget program is reviewed ? by-th- serviceaJo all who need them it is essential that all persons with any type of income make a contribution in proportion to then ability. This includes employed wives, retired persons receiving pensions and annuities, etc. The United Fund is built on the concept .of people helping people in jiccordance with their ability WHO CONTROLS THE UNITED FUND? The Salt Lake Area United Fund ts gov- eraed and controlled by your neighbors and friends. Representatives from allsegment of our community are included in the Sixty member Board or Directors : Industry-busines- s - labor - schools - churches - service-civ- ic and fraternal clubs. As you. look over the roster of Board Members you will find many familiar names. Your Fund is con- - ! ! ducted by local people who know local problems and local needs. HOW DOES THE GOVERNMENT EN- URAGE VOLUNTARY GIVING! Governmental tax policy, both federal and ls state, encourages voluntary gifts by and corporations to charitable United Funds. Such encouragement of giving is good business because public services performed by agencies of the Fund are essential and useful, and would otherwise necessarily be financed taxes. Q. HOW DO AGENCIES JOIN THE FUND? A. The open door policy is maintained by the United Fund. All voluntary agencies serving their community Jn the fields of health, family and child services and recreation can be admitted to the Fund by meeting minimum basic requirements and by making appthe United Fund Admissions lication-to -- Com-;mitt- ee help of the Community Services Council Realistic decisions are made on the practicability and necessity of the proposed program. Changes, when necessary, are negotiated and resolved wiUi the member agencies. The Community is- - thus insured that the programs -are both needed and realistic. In November- following the campaign, the Budget Committee sits down tothe task of. allocating actual moneys to the agencies based upon the money available and their preliminary negotiations with the agencies. The Budget Committee will approach this task with the one thought in mind and that thought is, that the contributor must be assured that every dollar contributed to the United Fund buyB for the community the very best service possible. - with-.th- e - - welfare agencies for assistance. The many agencies banded together in the United Fund" are, dedicated to help those who are unable to help themselves.
