Show OPINION 3 PUT YOUR FEET UP AT THE NEW SUGAR HOUSE MOVIE The new Sugar House movie theater is hard to recognize after a major renovation from the Cinemark chain. The out of date second-ru- n movie theater was transformed into a first-ru- n movie theater with amenities that enhance moviegoers THEATER CARLY POTH OP-E- D CONTRIBUTOR experience. The remodeled theater, at 2227 S. Highland Drive in Salt Lake City, reopened its doors on March 6. 1 visited the theater this weekend to test it out. There is a strategy behind picking out your seat at the movies. Typically when I go to the Want to just keep going to San Francisco? I asked. It was the Monday of spring break and I was in car full of bags and people - road trip. We were headed down to a small beach town called Capitola City, California. Admittedly we were going a little faster than the speed limit drive and we made the in nine hours. We were still two hours from Sacramento, but if we kept driving at the pace we were currently going, we would get there at 5 p.m.. Angela, Juan, Ryan and I had listened to every song worth listening to on 12-ho- ur our phones, our butts hurt, and we just didnt want to be in the car anymore. Besides, what was there to do in Sacramento at 5 p.m. on a Monday night? As we drove through the Sierra Nevada Mountains, Juan found us a hotel to stay in. Aw, guys I hope the hotel is kind of crummy, but in a cute way, Angela said. Through the fog, I could see San Francisco scrape against the sty Guys, do any of you have money? asked Ryan frantically. To get into the city we would need to scrounge $6 for the San Francisco-Oaklan- d Bay Bridge. we found Eventually the money and crossed the bridge into San Francisco, which is when Ryan panicked. If you have never driven in a metropolis, Salt Lake doesnt compare. Guys! What do I do? Ryan asked. The three of us looked up and we saw that we were parked in the middle of a crosswalk as people casually walked around us. I dont know, stay here? I told him. It wasnt like he couldve gone anywhere. He wouldve hit someone. The further we drove into the city the darker it got. Not only was the fog blocking out the sun but the buildings were so tall that the limited sun couldnt reach the ground. But as we made our way to our hotel the sun broke through the buildings and lit up the city. When we pulled up to our hotel the next challenge began parking our car. Juan checked us into the hotel while Ryan made three separate attempts to park before he was finally successful. We unloaded our car and made our way to the hotel. Much to Angelas delight, the hotel was crummy. (Note: any hotel that you book last minute for $90 in San Francisco will be crummy). After we quickly cleaned we headed out to explore. up Our hotel was located near Pier 39, Fishermans Warf and Ghirardelli Square so we made that our starting point. After enjoying famous Ghirardelli chocolate and the sea lions of Pier 39 We made our way to the financial district. It was 10 p.m. and we still hadnt eaten dinner. I wouldve thought that San Francisco stayed up later but apparently not. We found a restaurant in the financial district that was open. Ryan, Juan, and I ate while Angela slept against the - wall. Once we finished eating we woke Angela up, walked blocks back to our hotel, dodged the homeless man sleeping in front of our room and passed out. . After many turned off alarms we rolled out of bed and got ready to leave the city. We left the car at the hotel for a few hours and explored the city one last time. Parking in San Francisco is expensive. We started with breakfast at Happy Donut, where, according to Angela, they have the best toast in the world. Before leaving San Francisco we walked around Union Square, windowshopping. Then we loaded up our car and headed to Capitola. movies I try and find a seat where no one is sitting in front of me. This helps give me the chance of having a better view of the screen, as well as a possible footrest. I also strive to get a seat that is further away from the screen so that my neck doesnt get kinked. When I arrived I was disappointed to find the movie was almost sold out. My neck started to tense up thinking about staring straight up for the next two hours, while my legs complained about the small and cramped rows. As I made my way to my seat I was surprised to find that the entire auditorium was filled with Luxury Loungers, oversized plush seats paired with electric-powere- d recliners, leg rests, arm rests and plenty of room between rows for moviegoers to walk past. The seat was so amazing that I forgot I was sitting in the second row, and it was nice not to have to fight a stranger for the arm rests. The Sugar House Theater is the first theater in Utah to have all 10 of its auditoriums stocked with the reclining seats. The Luxury Loungers have made the seating capacity of each auditorium smaller which means shows are selling out faster. The largest theater seats 117, three theaters seat 70 each, and the other six range from 50 to 58 seats each. My experience was so amazing that I was surprised I didnt pay extra for the luxury seat and saw a matinee screening for $6.25. After 6 p.m. tickets are $9 and $9.25 on Friday and Saturday evenings.
