Show STUDENT GOVERNMENT ADMINISTRATION 12 MEAGAN RUMPH Interested in starting a club on campus, but unsure how to fund it? Club budgets have undergone some recent changes in an effort to streamline the process. The funding process for clubs changed in ASWC and the when 2013 us Inter-Clu- b Council (ICC) adopted a new tier system. With this new budget process, each club is provided funding at the start of each semester based on the size of the club and how active it is on campus. The tier system is broken down into three funding levels - tier one provides $100, tier two provides $250 and tier three provides $400. Prior to last year, clubs had to submit budget requests for each event held during the semester. According to ICC President Megan Peters, the paperwork could pile up. The new tier system gives each club a pot of money to draw from as needed throughout the semester. This way, club officers dont have the task of determining all of their events for the semester months in advance as previously required. The designated amounts from each tier seem to be enough for most clubs. Kostyantyn Lasiy, president of the Indoor Soccer Club, said money is never an issue. We just get together and play soccer, he said. left over from their tier two funding, according to Lasiy. Lots of clubs have money left in their budget each semester, said Peters, ICC president. We have to remind them at ICC meetings -'spend your money guys. When money is left in a club budget at the end of a semester, it rolls into the request fund. Club officers can request money from this fund on an basis, once their tier funds have been used, according to Peters. Club officers seem satisfied with the process for requesting ongoing funding as well. In my experience so far, the budget process has worked out well for us, said Shianne Gray, president of the Theatre Tier ns: 8263 on-goi- ng event-by-eve- nt Society. While not a new requirement, each club also has to plan a service project each semester in order to receive funding through ICC. Tier three clubs must also partner with the Student Activities Commission (SAC) to plan an event once a semester. We set up a face painting booth for kids at the Halloween Kids Club, said Gray, when asked about their SAC event. Weve thought about buying Powerade for the games just to help spend our budget.
