Student artist's display work in annual art show Laurel McLane StaffWriter Unless you find yourself bustling along with the small rush of students during the known Wesminster hot times, the Emma Eccles Jones Conservatory often renders virtually silent, minus the occasional echo of heels or the cackle of a softened laugh. But from March 9 through March 23, Westminster students are not afraid to break the silence. The 2010 Student Art Exhibit, held in the Tanner Atrium, aims to do more than merely show. It seeks to create an environment that speaks screams story after story, vision after vision. On a quiet evening, any curious soul could expect to wander the aisles of the exhibit in silence, but if you listen closely enough, you can hear that the paint, the plaster, the pigment, the pictures, all have something to tell you. You might find yourself in front of David Luhrs piece Cognition. This 3Qx30 oil paint rendition of the movements of a grandfather clock is Luhrs first attempt at painting realism. Luhr has been drawing and creating for most of his life, however it wasnt until late high school that he discovered his love for urban and street art. This reignited my passion to create, said Luhr, who is now a sophomore at Westminster College, majoring in Arts Administration. Luhr made the decision to submit Cognition for - - the same reason as many of the other featured artists: not only to show, but to share.
