Show Men's lacrosse opens season with MCLA full house face off Westminster Athletics Public Information The Westminster mens lacrosse team opened the 2010 season Feb.19 and 20 at the MCLA Full House Face Off in Las Vegas, Nevada. Westminster opened Cruz on the tournament against No. 16 UC-San- ta Friday, Feb. 19 at 5 p.m. The Griffins lost. and championship were on Saturday, The semi-fina- ls f20. The Griffins faced Biola in the second round. Feb. The bottom of the bracket features Western Washington vs. Utah Valley and Cal State Fullerton against Northern Arizona. All games were played at the Viper Lacrosse Fields at Thunderbird Family Park. They won. Westminster entered the season ranked No. 8 in the MCLA Top 23 poll after going 13-- 8 in 2009 and advancing to the quarterfinals of the MCLA National Tournament. They are selected second in the Rocky Mountain Lacrosse Conference behind Northern Colorado and first in the West division. The Griffins have 21 players returning from the 2009 squad including last seasons leading scorer Josh Condas. Condas scored 54 goals and had 61 points to lead the Griffins in 2009. Jacob Wayman returns in 2010 after finishing second on the team with 22 assists last season. Wayman added 13 goals and was third on the team with 35 points. The Griffins also return starting goalie Dallas McLellan. Last season McLellan recorded 13.1 saves per game with a 61.1 save percentage. Westminster also welcomes back Roman Schoewe after a year away. Schoewe was a MCLA Frist Team All-Ameri- in 2008 after leading the Griffins 49 goals and 61 points. In total, Westminster welcomes 22 players that werent on the team in 2009. Next week the Griffins head north for three games in five days starting at Boise State on Friday, Feb. 26. That is followed by a game on Sunday, Feb. 28 in Portland, Oregon against Southern Oregon. They complete the trip on Tuesday, March 2 against Western Oregon in Monmouth, Oregon.
