Show Leven, ASWC call upon students New president brings style to student government Ashley Gober StaffWriter ultimate student organization, Associated Students of Westminster College (ASWC) is as influential to its students as Bill is to Hillary, says President Brody Leven. ASWC is composed of approximately 50 to 60 students who act as Westminsters student government. The group falls into sections of executive, legislative and judicial branches. The executive branch represents students to the administration and enforces the decisions of the Senate, which include the approval of new clubs and legislation. Judicial is responsible for ensuring that both branches follow the regulations put in place by the The ASWC Constitution. Leven began participating in ASWC by serving as a senator in the legislative branch before deciding to run for President last spring. He said he saw a lot of changes that he wanted to see made and instead of telling others to do something about it, he decided to do something about it himself, gaining the administrations support despite his long hair, earrings, and penchant for wearing tight pants. Changes ASWC wanted to see made this year in-dan improvement of the freshmen experience and an increase in attendance at student activities, which are being met through a variety of initiatives, according orientation was better to Leven. This year, ASWC has events planned including laser tag, go carts, comedians, magicians, and illusionists, which Vice President Richel Raich coordinates with the help of the Student Activities Commission, a group of students who help find entertainers to bring to Westminster. These individuals attend conferences featuring entertainers from around the nation in an effort to find the most desirable acts to bring to Westminster.Leven said that though ASWC has many ideas for events that could be held, they have left some days open for students to fill with their ideas. To come up with ideas or proposals for change, Leven said that ASWC doesnt assign people to complete a certain task but asks for volunteers instead.
