Poker is another plus for Wagner, who plays three to four times a week with his buddies in Hogle Hall. I love that they had an- other tournament, said Wagner. I didnt play the first time, but Im glad I played the second. Michael Breiling, a member of the Hogle poker gang, was disappointed with his loss so near the final table. I had two pair on the board with an ace kicker. I missed out. I was hoping to get to the final table, sighed Breiling, who admits to sometimes playing poker when he should be studying. I actually lost to one of my fellow players. Heath Pascoe, Breilings opponent, took tenth place. Brandon Hines, another final-mome- nt ay if er Summer John, Stephanie Parker, Victoria Guinney and Meghan Moore play a game of black jack with dealer Randy Peatree during Casino Night last Wednesday. Hogle poker friend, stuck it out in the final table with only one chip for quite a few hands. Im playing good poker, said Hines. Im folding the hands I dont want to play and playing the hands that I want to play. Dave Werschky, also of the Hogle crew, cheered his buddy on until the end. With three chips left, I think Brandon is doing pretty well, said Werschky. He might win. I think hell place in the top five. Werschky, who was one of the first to be smitten from the table, also played a little while he waited for the tournament to whittle down. I did roulette for a bit, said Werschky. I stayed even though I dont like the odds. sit-and-- go The sit-and-- go chips Leadleifsiip Werschky earned helped his chances in the drawing for prizes at the end of the night. Players who came out with chips were given vouchers from the tables, then tickets from event staff. These tickets were then drawn from and those chosen were awarded prizes. An iPod Nano, DVDs and gift certificates were given to the lucky Just before those names were drawn, the poker tournament was winding down with fierce competition. He argued that the old saying is He stressed his view that sons presented, making each person stand and address the entire audience when speaking, constantly repeating the phrase, Stand up and tell us why. He also encouraged the audience by reacting to their statements, saying Wow! Wow! when he felt an idea was especially powerful. McNeal covered many facets of the ideal leader, emphasizing certain points by repeating them or encouraging the audience to write this down. He maintained a sense of energy and humor throughout the entire presentation, encouraging discussion and highlighting the importance of learning from each other in all situations, especially leadership positions. Interspersed in the many discussions were McNeals bits of leadership advice. Shortly thereafter, the drawing prizes were ano nounced, with Brandon taking home a iPod Nano. Overall, ASWC saw its casino night as a victory. I thought it went well, said Wharton. I think everybody had a great time, said Bradford. This company treats us very well. They deal with these unruly hooligans very well. The dealers are really nice. Bradford said that this event is one of the more popular events theyve had and that its future has promise. Id love to see ASWC continue this in the future, said Tra-bucc- two-gigaby- te Bradford. Itd be cool next year to have Bassis come play. pdwobt EnmoBB emphasized the need to exercise that knowledge, to show it and share it with others, otherwise it is useless. Another of McNeals main ideas was that leadership is not a seasonal thing. King, saying that these movies have the potential to Carter, river save. Brent Collins was the chip leader since the final 10 converged upon the last table. When Ferrugiari went out, Collins held a commanding lead of almost 700 percent over Andrew Cater. However, Cater played a smart game and kept coming back, going all-i- n to finally unseat a noticeably peeved Collins, who would take home a $75 gift certificate to the Gateway Mall. Carter got a bigger prize. Im all psyched and all-i- n, power is wrong. His ideas the same way again. He spoke of several movies as examples, including Men of Honor and The Lion clips from popular movies, Coach including Honey, in your face! exclaimed Ferrugiari after a last minute, that simply knowledge that after this presentation, Youll never look at movies The presentation consisted of a collection of screamed Ferrugiari. I havent had a high like this in a long time! Im a blackjack player! After making an impressive sum of chips at the 21 table, Ferrugiari was dealt with a huge blow: Dealer and ASWC Director of Budget and Finance, Dharav Shah hit a blackjack. After Ferrugiari calmed down from an excited faux-angspell, he set up for another hand. Then, to compound Ferrugiaris frustrations, Shah pulled out an amazing second blackjack in a row, taking all of the players chips. Ferrugiari ran a lap around the dining area of Shaw to display his displeasure. leadership is something you have to have in all aspects of life, in school, business and at home. He said that leadership is not just for the workplace, it must be carried through every aspect of your life. Every day you teach people how to treat you, he said, and leaders know how to get the respect they deserve. McNeal ended his presentation, long before most were willing to let him go, by focusing on the importance of not letting fear guide ones life. The last film presented was The Karate Kid, with a scene exemplifying the need to overcome fear and allow the knowledge one already has to show through. Several audience members observed that this years presenter was one of the best theyd seen, one even mentioning that shed fallen asleep during last years presentation. McNeal held his audience so well that most said they would not have objected to spending their whole day in his presentation. Following McNeals presentation, participants attended a luncheon with students who plan to attend Westminster next year, followed by a section of workshops on leadership in college and beyond. Presenters included members of the Westminster faculty and staff, as well as students. The day closed with a reception with student leaders from around campus and pizza from The Pie. |
