Show Sept.- 22. 2004 - THE FORUM - The Admissions Offices 3 new counselors Amanda de Roda, Patrick McShane and Abby Davenport started working for Westminster to help recrute more students to the school. Not only is there a bunch of new faces on campus in the freshmen class, but there are also some fresh new faces in the admissions office. In an effort to bring in even more students to Westminster, the admissions office has hired three new admissions counselors to help recruit students for the ' t school. . Her counselors to travel around to high schools to get the word out about the benefits of attending Westminster. I am thrilled to have them on board, said Mary M. They bring a lot of life and energy to the campus and I think they can connect very well with prospective students. De Roda has been working for Westminster since January, so she already has the hang of most things in the office. However, de Roda is no stranger to Westminster. She graduated from t original plan was to go into counseling, but after working in the counseling office at the University of Utah, she realized that wasnt quite what she wanted. When de Roda saw the opening for an admissions counselor she thought it would be perfect to go back and work for Westminster. I love Westminster, said de Roda, coming back here is great because I had such a fun experience here to begin with. She said it is a lot of fun to work with the high school students she meets with because they are always so excited and nervous. De Roda thinks she can give the students a good perspective of the college because she has been there. I know what questions and fears they have because I had those same feelings when I was looking for the right college. De Roda says that the favorite part of her job is the people she works with. This office is the best, I feel like I can be myself and that makes me want to come to thrilled to be back. He graduated in 2002 with a degree in social science. He has only been working in the office since the beginning of summer but he says he already loves this job because it is something he has always wanted to do and it is even better that he is doing it at Westminster. This is an opportunity to see how actors train and watch Professors Chris Quinn and Michael Vought help vocally and physically prepare the actors. Westminsters voice students will also perform on stage in the Vieve Gore Concert Hall. One of Westminsters private voice instructors, Cheryl Hart, will also be offering these students a public voice lesson. There will also be several reunions held for former Westminster students to come back to the college and socialize with former classmates and new and old faculty mem- graduate students and will be on Carleson Patio. The School of Nursing reunion is also for undergraduate and graduate students and will take place on the Malouf Patio. The theatre, art and music reunion will take place in the new Emma Eccles Jones Conservatory and will also include a special tour of the new building. There are many festivities going on throughout the week, but Friday Sept. 24 marks one of the busiest days of Homecoming Week. The morning starts off with two events held in the Giovale Library. From 10 11 a.m. they will hold Research on the Fast Track!, which will -- help make finding books, ebooks, journal articles and other resources faster and more convenient. This will be held in the Giovale Library room 115. Then from 1 1 noon there will be Making RefWorks Work for You. This will teach students, faculty, and staff how to set up their own account to store an unlimited amount of books, journals, or other citations. It will also teach you how to format bibliographies for any This type of research project. event will also be held in the Giovale Library room 115. p.m. This event invites back all the graduates from the early 1960s and before. President Michael Bassis will address the crowd, as well as introduce the new School of Nursing dean, Jean noon-- 2 Dyer, to the college. There will also be an update on the alumni association from Nick Fears, alumni relations director. From 2 - 2:40 p.m. there will be an opening celebration for the Emma Eccles Jones Conservatory. It will include a ribbon-cuttin- g ceremony and also speeches from Bassis and Mary Jane Chase, dean of the School of Arts and Sciences. From 2:40-3:3- 0 p.m. there will also be other events going on in the Emma Eccles ing Interactive Movement Experience.
