Once ready to order, the server took our order promptly. The server and one of my dining companions had a slight communication problem, as she wanted to order a dinner, which the menu explained included rice and soup for an additional $1.50. Instead, the server recommended that she share my dinners rice. In the end, it all worked out, and our server even checked back to make sure one of my companions wanted eggs included in her vegetarian mu shu mixture. ordered hot and sour soup with my meal, which arrived almost immediately after ordering. The soup came 1 with a traditional spoon and was a good blend of sour and sweet tastes. The soup was one 1 was used to seeing with slices of tofu and firm slices of bamboo shoots. Now that the Super Bowl is just a four-hou- r blip that is slowly leaving the mind, we should recall the highlights of the Troy preview. The thing that sticks in our minds is Brad Pitt in this upcoming film. Finally, we get some defi- nite dialogue, and everyone has a British accent. The clip actually looks pretty cool lots of dusty fighting and weighty looks. Set in ancient Greece, director Wolfgang Petersens Troy is a historical epic based on The Iliad., the Greek poet Homers account of the i . Trojan War. Paris (Orlando Bloom), the Prince of Troy, begins an affair with Helen (Diane Kruger), the Queen of Sparta. King Menalaus (Brendan Gleeson) takes this as a terrible insult, both to him and his brother, Agamemnon (Brian Cox), King of the Myceneans. Agamemnon unites the populations of Greece to bring Helen back from Troy. According to troy.com, he also wants to expand his empire, and he forms an alliance with Achilles, played by Pitt, a warrior who hungers for glory and power, to bring down the walled city, which is defended by Prince Hector played by Eric Bana. My only complaint was that the batter around the chicken was a little thicker than I prefer. The shrimp chow mein was especially tasty after adding a splash of soy sauce. The dish was a mixture of vegetables, medium-sized shrimp, and soft noodles. The amount of oil was also just right, so as not to taste too greasy but yet also not to be flavorless. Mu shu vegetables turned out to be quite a treat. The mixture consisted of a variety of diced vegetables and slivers of fried egg. On the side, there was a small dish of sweet red sauce and the traditional thin rice pancakes. However, these were even thinner than normal so my 1353 East 3300 South 4674111 - well-round- Ripple Rating (out of 5 Food: 5 Service: Atmosphere: Overall: , Reservations not needed. Instead of typical fried rice, which usually contains some form of meat, eggs, and vegetables, this rice was the traditional white steamed Asian rice. Fortunately, Long Life did not serve overcooked and gummy rice, which some restaurants seem to create. We closed the meal with the traditional fortune cookies, complete with lucky lotto numbers. Alas, we couldnt rush out and buy a ticket, since this is Utah. We all left with enough food for a small meal or snack the next day. However, my leftover lemon chicken tasted better cold than when I tried to reheat it in the microwave. So, if you do decide to dine at Long Life, you may want to select certain items, eat your entire entree that night or at least try it cold on the next day. OJ |
