It depends who you ask. People that are against the war will tell you that its all about big business and oil. People who are in favor of the war say that we are protecting America from the terrorists of the world and freeing the people of Iraq from the dictatorial and evil regime of Saddam Hussein. Its hard to know what to think, or who to believe. At press time, 40 U.S. soldiers had been killed, 16 were missing, and seven had been captured. Thise number will steadily go up as this war drags on. People shouldnt be surprised by this; thats what happeople die. Thats just stupid. Many people also thought this war would only last three days to a week. When this is printed, the war will be two weeks old. Thats not very long. Have you been to any antiwar rallies lately? Have you seen anyone holding up signs saying things like, We support our troops. When they shoot their ofFicers? What the hell is up with that? Its okay to be against the war, but why would you want your message to be something like that? Whats up with antiwar protesters turning violent against the police who are trying to do their job and maintain a peaceful demonstration? I cant believe my eyes when I see people who are calling for peace turn violent. Do they not understand how stupid this makes them look, and how much it undermines their cause? Apparently not. Im not fully in favor of this war, and I have many questions about the way its being conducted, but the fact of the matter is, were already over there, and well be their until its over. I think its funny when I see an aging hippy, or a young, I wish I had been alive in the 60s college student out at the local war protests in full These look to me like people with way too much time tie-dy- e. See War, pg. 7 Staff Writer Statistics say that the average person falls in love seven times in his or her life. If that is true then it could be possible to feel six different heartbreaks, to be with six wrong suitors, to end up with six exs and to have to redefine and reevaluate your personal definition of love six times before you get it right. Seven times seems extreme, all though I am sure there are people out there who experience even more mistakes than just seven; Elizabeth Taylor has been married eight times and counting. I personally dont believe that everyone has to fall in love seven tims before they make that one true romance work for all time and eternity, especially not in Utah where most couples choose to marry their high school sweethearts, or the first girl who comes along after a two year hiatus, or first guy a girl can snag when his two year journey is over. However, I do believe that most young men and women looking to find someone special wall experience a first love that will eventually end. What is a person to do in a time of heartbreak? How are we to pick our up our ruined life now in shambles and move on to greener pastures? How do we face that person who caused us pain, when for so long what we felt for them was love? Was this my last chance at true happiness? These are typical questions that emerge when a meaningful, usually long term, committed relationship comes to an end. They are all questions that one must find answers to in his or her own way. Yet they are questions that one usually seeks advice from those experienced, a.k.a those who have been hurt. I have received my fair share of telephone calls, with hysterical sobbing women, and men mind you, on the other line who have just found out their world has changed because their lover has dumped them. a word that can also express a bowel moveDumped ment? Doesnt that just suit ones feelings to a tee after a break up. one must be When dealing with the broken-heartesensitive to their needs, and yet firm and honest so that you can tell that person what he or she needs to hear in order to move onward and love again. It is a tricky road to maneuver, a road that most of us will steer in our lifetimes. Sometimes we never really liked the person our friend was involved with. This would be a great opportunity to say, I told you so, or I never liked them anyway. Unless the friend you are dealing with enjoys having things rubbed in his or her face, try to refrain from these comments until the time is appropriate. Sometimes we were more in love with the new ex than our friend ever was, and we dont want to see this relationship come to an end. There is a time a place for comments like, You guys will work it out, or Why? Heshe was such a great guygirl. If stated too early, you could come off sounding like an uncaring d, friend.
