I think those who were teenagers in this psychedelic decade, and those who wish they were, will appreciate this film the most. Filled with drugs, sex, and rock-and-ro- ll, Almost Famous almost hits the mark. Barely. Were talking I enjoyed watching The Replacements more than this movie. Its not that it was a bad movie, or that it was a bad film idea. I believe that many will enjoy this show and call it Quite simply the best film of the year, as did Patrick Stoner of PBS Flicks. I wonder if his last name had anything to do with it? Yes, this is a Almost Famous yearns for the time gone by when artists like Led Zeppelin and David Bowie ruled the stage. The movie is premised on a boy named William (Salt Lake local and East High grad Patrick Fugit), who, by a twist of fate, gets hired over the telephone by Rolling Stone magazine to follow the band, Stillwater, on their rise to stardom. Surprisingly, the movie is deeper than just a boy fol GenerationNet.org from Page 1 These are strategies that GenerationNet.org is incorporating into its offline campaigns. Schurman said, GenerationNet.org is a powerful new voice for our generation. William suddenly finds himself in the bands inner circle and begins to see that being a rock star isnt all its cracked up to be. Penny Lane (Kate Hudson), a groupie of the band who ends up falling in love with the lead guitarist, Russell Hammond (Billy to have his last Crudup-suck- s name), only to have that love traded for $50 and a case of beer, gets entwined in Williams life in more ways than one. Now heres a little something that I bet you probably didnt see coming; William naively falls in love with Penny, but doesnt get that love returned in quite the same way. Youll just have to see the and working together to make sure they do something about it. It has received movie to understand. So what about acting? The acting is what practically saves the show. Stellar performances r, by Fugit and his played by Frances McDormand, should be getting great reviews, and will perhaps come up when the Oscars roll around. I was really impressed with the acting done by McDormand. Her role as the overprotective mother is fabulous and very relatable. And what about Fugit? This from Utah really is a crowd pleaser. Look for him in films to come. So why dont you think this film is that good? youre asking. Well I like a film that has good values. Theres movie-mothe- no-na- me world that I dont think we need to add any to our entertainment. Perhaps thats what writerdirector Cameron Crowe (Jerry Maguire) had in mind though. The only value I see coming out of this film is that by the end, William leamS that the family youre bom into is more important than any family you can create for yourself. An entertaining film, I give Almost Famous two stars. One for the superb acting, and one for Russell Hammond, who just before jumping off the roof of a house into a pool declares his last words to be, Im on . drugs! enough depressing crudup (sorry, couldnt resist) in this grants from companies such as Morton Meyerson, Jim Carlisle, Allen & Company, and a $10,000 first prize from a Yale business plan competition. Schurman asked that students keep in mind that GenerationNet.org is not a , protest group, but a group to create change. There are 131 milhon people in generations X and Y, and thats almost half the American population. More than 40 milhon of us are active Internet users. Together our voices can' have a huge impact.
