Amy Gordon has worked as the START Center secretary for two years and does a wonderful job of directing the traffic and chaos that runs through the office. Gordon came to Westminster College after seeing an ad in the paper for a receptionist. At the time she was working at a soft- ware company in town. Her husband was attending Westminster and tuition remission is the main reason she took the job. "I took a tremendous pay cut when I came here, but the benefits made it worth it," said Gordon. "Now my husband and my two sons are able to go to school for free." Gordon's husband still attends Westminster and her youngest son Chas is now a economics sophomore. Her oldest son Dean is an international business senior who will graduate this Looking back, Gordon doesn't regret her decision to come to Westminster. Tuition remission isn't the only reason Gordon enjoys working in the START Montana. McNeely worked as a nurse in a variety of nursing positions before becoming and educator. She worked in a home-healt- h practices, as a school nurse, business nurse and for a plastic surgeon. McNeely came to Westminster in 1996 from Montana State University where she held the position of Assistant Dean of the College of Nursing. When McNeely saw the ad for Westminster she saw it as a challenge. "As I looked into Westminster, I was impressed with the nursing program. The more I looked into it, the more I was impressed with the students and the faculty," said McNeely. McNeely and her husband have a commuter relationship. McNeely 's husband lives in Bozeman Montana, where he is Montana St. University's Campus Minister of the Presbyterian Church. "Were always looking for improvements in the nursing program, said McNeely. Which is why she applied for a half a million dollar grant for a Federal Nurse Trainingship program. The money would go to nursing graduate programs to assist students working full time. The center handles all registration of new freshman and transfer students. They assign students to their advisors and keep track of their advising files. They do all the math placements tests, Clep exams and disability testing. Gordon herself handles the appointment calenders, files, transfer evaluations and the administration of the Clep exams. Besides her two jobs, Gordon is an avid sports fan. "I love all kinds of sports and I always have," said Gordon. "We nave season tickets to everything. All the U of U football games the Buzz Games, you name it." Gordon enjoys playing golf, softball and bowling on a league. She has played golrfor the past five summers. Gordon has played softball for 20 years. She played all during high school and with the county for 15 years. Only recently did sne decided to give up softball. "I realized I had too many aches and pains when I was done with practice and I didn't have the time anymore," said Gordon. time." Gordon has been bowling for almost 16 years. According to Eddie Bennett, an' economics senior and a START Center peer advisor for two years, Gordon is vital to the operation of the START Center. "Amy is very efficient and professional," said Bennett. "She makes sure that everything gets done and she basically holds the office together." Gordon's role in the success of the office became obvious last summer when she went on a trip for a couple of weeks. "We were all very disorganized," said Bennett. "We all basically ran around like chickens with our heads cut off.
