Jana Edward history, sophomore d, Dear Forum, This letter is in response to the criticism over the lack of stringent admission requirements at Westminster. I believe it is commendable that Westminsters admission I wont be going here because of the tuition increase. I was here last year for the increase and I cant afford it anymore. read, Now dont get the wrong idea. This attitude is that of a MBA candidate, that will be graduating this summer and that has attended several other colleges ana universities. Westminster gives you a chance to prove yourself and not be judged solely on past performance for admittance. For many, it takes a few years of working at menial jobs, or or gaining a desire to getting married, or being laid-ofimprove ones intellect, to get the drive and desire needed to succeed in college. High school, and the SAT or ACT, might not have been taken as seriously as they should have. Tnis shouldnt mean that a college education is forever unattainable or that a less desirable school is the only option. Westminster does not compare to Harvard or other ivy league schools in its admission policies, tuition costs, or students refused admission. Westminster does have an ivy league quality faculty, academic attitude, and student body. What Westminster has more of than other institutions of higher learning, ivy league or not, is a commitment to quality teaching and genuine concern for the success of her students. Westminsters unique characteristics are why I chose to come here. Once the college reaches the 2,500 student level, deemed to be cap enrollment, and more want to attend, then probably see more stringent admission requirements youll line with other ivy league schools. This should make some in of you happy that are concerned over this issue. I believe what will make Westminster a true ivy league school is intelligent, articulate and informed graduates making a difference in our society in their chosen fields of study, and others seeing their good works wanting to emulate them by attending non-tradition- They should only raise the tuition for the incoming freshmen. Id like to see the faculty ' get more money.
