Show o Arts S Entertainment The Forum Producers Should ft ft "House for by Paul Gadd Forum staff writer House Arrest, a wacky and supposedly funny look at divorce, was released in August and is I was already at the dollar-flickinitially puzzled as to why this movie left regular theaters so early, until, after sitting in those soft theater seats for two hours, all my were answered. Expect Suestions movie to be in video stores soon. This feeble attempt at entertainment ironically takes place in Defiance, Ohio and portrays the lives of the Beindorfs; Janet (Jamie Lee Curtis), Ned (John Pollack), and their two rebellious children, Stacie and Grover. Grover is a high school freshman who suddenly finds himself in the midst of his parents separation and is determined to help them make up. With the help of his best friend Matt, Grover decides to lock his parents in the basement until the feuding couple can solve their problems. Along the way, Grover makes some new friends and so do his parents. For their wedding anniversary, Janet and Ned are treated to a Hawaiian getaway in the basement. Grover and his sister Stacie s. serve dinner and then retreat upstairs as the couple sits down to watch a videotape of their honeymoon. Suddenly, sounds of hammering surround the couple as Grover puts his plan into action. In fact, Grovers plan is so good that TJ, the school bully, Brooke, Grovers dream girl, and Matt, all decide to put their parents in the basement together. What happens next is not hard to figure out. While all of the parents are in the basement, the kids upstairs take advantage of the situation. Eating whatever food they want, causing chaos, dodging neighbors and police, and everything else that young kids like to do. The kids even become psychologists and hold group therapy sessions to help aid the parents recovery. House Arrest left me wondering how it even made it into theaters. The acting was below average and unconvincing and the story itself just did not do anything for me (movies I can predict with ease leave nothing for the imagination). If you are interested in seeing this film, go while its only $1.50. As soon as it hits video stores the price will jump up to $3.19 and its not worth it.
