Show Wednesday April 3 Editorial 1996 The Crying Game: Letters to the Editor This letter is being posted around campus and accounts. I to your am urging you to join me in contacting you student body leaders to demand that something be done about the poor quality of The Forum. I have written to the editor but who knows if or when the next issue will be published. Two significant events occurred during the last two weeks that were not covered in the so called student newspaper. The passing of Dr. Bernice Jewett Bradshaw and the election of new student body officers. Both of these events deserved major covif erage and would have The Forum served the needs of the Westminster community. Instead the e-m- ail - paper published mindless opinion polls (Parson Poll), inane articles (Lois and Clark) and reviews and listings of off campus events such as concerts and University of Utah events. Please contact you student officers. Demand that paid newspaper staff be required to produce or return the monies paid to them. Insist that The Forum deliver something of quality or cease to use college funds. I welcome you suggestions as to how we can eliminate this embarrassing newspaper from our campus. I welcome you help and suggestions. Thompson Forum staff writer What is the deal with The Forumt Lately Ive heard a lot of complaining and whining about the quality, or lack thereof, of our schools newspaper. Some complain the paper is sophomoric, unprofessional and does not fully cover or represent all the various programs and majors offered here at Westminster. All of these are valid complaints. All of The Forum staff are students. None are professional journalists, and some have no journalThe istic experience. Forum exists not only to publicize the happenings on at and goings allow but to Westminster, students the chance to gain experience finding stories, interviewing people, writing articles and meeting deadlines. Much effort has been made by the editorial staff, as well as The Forum's faculty advisor Dr. Fred Fogo, to raise the quality ana accuracy of The Forum. However, one must remember one of the purposes of The Forum is to nelp students learn. Nobody can learn without making mistakes. I am amazea that neither of these events were mentioned in The Forum. Again I am embarrassed by the content of The Forum. Once again student funds were wasted printing such nonsense as the Parson Poll, Lois and Clark and a review of an obscure band. It is embarrassing that the passing of Dr. Bradshaw was not mentioned by The Forum yet nearly 12 page was devoted to a review of the occurred before the opening of the Ben Folds Five band. Sincerely, Steven S. Cooley accounting senior Editors note: The review of Ben Folds Five was done during their first show. The second show was on March 12.
