Show Campus Forum October 5, 1993 5 Pueblo Pottery Exhibit Coining To Jewett Center Jason C. Russell Forum Staff Writer Merton and Linda Sisneros of the Santa Clara Pueblo in New Mexico will demonstrate their handbuilding and pottery techniques from 10 a.m. to noon in the Jewett Center for the Performing Arts on Thursday, Oct. 7. The husband and wife team is known which foraunique is created using their handbuilt forms. Mr. Sisneros learned his techniques from watching his mother and grandmother. He explained that the distinctive designs ry d on the couples pots are a combination of traditional symbols of nature which are unique to his family. The Santa Clara pottery, considered an art of the pueblo, has existed as long as the Santa Clara people. When you understand the symbols, you can understand the Santa Clara people, said Mr. Sisneros. Porter said, There will be an International Fest on Friday, Nov. 19, which will display the beauty and richness of different subcultures that form mainstream America. We will have food, entertainment and crafts from around the world. The revenue from this project will go into a charity fund to benefit ethnic minorities in Salt Lake City.
