In Honduras, he belonged to various groups that worked together fora peaceful end to the areas conflict. I Ie has been In the United States for three years and works everyday for peace. The Peace Rally, organized on Feb. 1 1 . Is Just one sign of his commitment to Central America. Another sign of his dedication to his people Is his acceptance In and commitment to the Westminster United Futurists. This group elected Flores as their president. I feel I can do the job. I can organize activities because 1 have been doing this for a long time,' said Flores and added, "I like to share my experiences with the United Futurists. I think they can benefit from my experiences In Honduras, which were not always easy. You can get hurt helping people." Flores was bom to an American mother and to a Honduran father. He lived most of his life In Honduras while his mother did social work. Flores considers himself 75 percent Honduran citizen and 25 percent American citizen. The reason for his choice Is the Honduran people need his commitment the most. While living In Honduras. Flores obtained his University Certificate In Topography. He divided his school work between social work and school responsibilities. He has belonged to many organizations, one of which was The Secretariat of Natural Resources, which protected the lives of the turtles. He also worked with the Program of Food and Agriculture Organization protecting the water reservoirs. He also did important work with Caritas lntematlojnal. - a scout. Flores was the leader of the Specialized Group for Emergencies and Disasters. Flores not only helped his people, he also helped the people of Nicaragua. In 1979, during the Nicaraguan Civil War, he visited with First Aid Emergencies. And in 1981, he visited the country on his own to help with the literacy program. I was there because they needed help. I like to be with people who are in need of people who care," said Flores and added, These people have taught me to become more of a humanitarian. The experience of working with people has helped me to realize that the As more crises arise the more we need people interested in other peoples destiny and in the future of our children." But Flores does not find himself alone. He has found many others here in the US and also in Honduras who share his point of view. In Honduras, all the High School students get Involved in social activities. Students there feel responsible for helping their own people." said Flores. After being in Nicaragua and meeting its people, Flores feels that their revolution is right. This is the only way for Nicaraguans to obtain freedom after so many years of the dictatorial repression sponsored by other nations." said Flores. Flores also believes in the philosophy of a popular leader. Francisco Morazan, who used to say Central Americans are only for Central America." I believe in his philosophy. It is not right for one country to exploit other countries." says Flores. He also thinks that the Sandinistas are not as bad as the press depicts them. They have helped people with Illiteracy and other social problems. But when other nations get in the way, the situation is even harder to solve and there is not freedom to work," he said and added, The one problem that I see with the Sandinistas is that they do not allow individual freedom and I believe that each of us has the right to run our own life." Flores goals as the United Futurists president are twofold: Help people to understand the conflict in 'Central America, and Work together as a group to become aware of other world issues that need solutions. Flores and his group have been actively involved in organizing the International Peace Week, March 2 1 27 .
