I am trying to organize it with something substantial. stuAmong the programs requested by the basdents are programs like: tennis,. softball, ketball, and others. Swimming is another of the programs Hausmann is working on. According to Hausmann, there are a lot of advantages to an intramural program. It attracts many students to the college. It serves as a stress outlet. It is fun and it helps people meet each other. And you dont have to be a great athlete to qualify, said Hausmann. People interested in intramural activities can look for information at the intramural bulletin board in the Shaw Center diagonally across from the information booth, or they can contact Hausmann at her office in the gym, Monday thru Friday from 8:50 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., or call at by Myriam Hernandez Elke Hausmann, the new director of intra- mural actitivies, is here to keep Westminster in shape. "Basically I am here to promote sports, activities and to bring people a lot of fun. said Hausmann. Hausmann is busy creating new activities and trying to meet deadlines. "I was hired a little bit late, said Hausmann, so it has been difficult to meet deadlines. Seven teams will be participating in a volleyball tournament which started Thursday, Oct. 9th. These teams are made up only by students. Alumni and faculty will be included in the future. For students that could not participate in this volleyball tournament, there will be another one starting Nov. 14th. There is also a separate volleyball club that plays Wednesday nights gainst other teams from Salt Lake City. They are doing real well, said Hausmann. Elke Hausmann, as the director of the intramural program, hires coaches and referees for temporary seasons. One of her best sources, said Hausmann, is the University of Utah's referees meeting, held at the beginning of each quarter. These referees, who are interested in all sports, are cheaper to hire than going for professional ones, said Hausmann. Westminster will have its own intramural sports tournaments. The winners of these tournaments will be playing winning teams from other schools at the University of Utah. 7 This will add a little more excitement, we will be playing with teams from outside .Westminster College, said Ilaus- v;" ' 'jnkun. jr,i the spring Hausmann will be promoting : Jcn interleave volleyball team.: This team i be playing teams from Utah; Idaho and Wyoming.
