In the case of professor Dan Miles, his long list of publications speaks for itself. research is just one of the he has studied and published many areas out in the eyes of the laybut stands it about, man as more than enough contribution to his field. At present, we are preparing a research grant proposal to explore the possibility of finding a biochemical inhibitor that would effect parasites in human beings without harming the human host. This could benefit thousands of people who die each year in underdeveloped countries due to the complications that arise from the parasitic condition, he said. Anti-canc- The research could also have a profound effect on cancer research, according to Miles. Its only a shot in the dark, he cautions, but a venture capitalist could write off the sum of money we need and if we are successful the financial benefits to the investor could be quite great. er Westminster Nigfit Heading the life sciences department along with professor Pool, Miles cautions students entering the chemistry program to be prepared to move away from the Salt Lake City area if they expect to find a job right away. Most of our students who graduate in the program here at Westminster are headed for grad school in one form or another, said Miles. Few are looking to go into the job market right away, but those who are do quite well coming from this school. Miles, who graduated with Phi Kappa Phi honors in 1960, has been at Westminter since research 1968. He has also been a part-tim- e specialist in chemistry at the University of Utah with the responsibility of initiating and developing research proposals and conducting research. He also spent time at the Institute for Biomedical Research in Chicago. Miles received his doctorate degree from the University of Utah and also spent time teaching at Dixie State College. Miles likes Westminster College and speaks highly of its size which gives students the personal touch but bemoans the budget problems that keep his chemistry lab far behind the times. Hes not so different from anyone else in this regard. As far as the research grant goes, Miles sees the chances of getting one a bit on the low side. Its mostly politics as to who receives money but its worth a try. Weve been working on this for a couple of years and I think it has a few things going for it Blaine For some at the Reader Fears Moral Toes5 Dear Blaine, My boyfriend and I have been together for almost years now. We have a really good relationship and we love each other a lot. We have been talking of getting married soon. The problem is that I fear we may not be sexually compatible because he insists on remaining a virgin until we are married. For the most part I respect him and he is very mature, but he is uncomfortable talking about sex so he refuses the matter completely. How can I make him feel at ease with the subject without stepping on his moral toes? two-and-a-h- The Utah Symphony with Maestro Joseph L.
