Personally, I think Holy Grail and The Life of Brian are two of the funniest films you could ever see. Its also interesting that most of the dogs picked are less than 10 years old, while most of the classics are over 10 years old. Attack of the Killer Tomatoes was made in the late 70s and was top dog of three people: Marselle, Dave Neidert, and Chris Satovick. The Hunger, the infamous lesbian-vampir- e movie, was the worst that Lori Hart and Mike Weston have seen. Mike Popich hated 10, Bo Dereks film debut; while One of the toughest questions you can ask a person is Name your favorite film and the worst film youve ever seen. The suggestion I made for picking a best film was to think of a film you would like to see right now. Its hard, though, isnt it? Picking a bad film isnt as hard. Theres usually one that makes you nauseous right off the bat. Mine is Endless Barf, I mean Endless Love with Brooke I have a nice mother Shields. That movie was so bad that when it was on HBO (Home Box Office), I walked out of my own house. Now on to your favorite classics and dogs. I randomly asked students, faculty, and staff about their favorites and got some very interesting answers. Whats really strange is when you get one film picked by one person as the best and by another as the worst. Tom OLeary picked Friday the ISth as his favorite, while it made Julie Brubakers dog list. Musicals also made both lists. Camelot was Don Hornadays favorite and Singing in the Rain was Brubakers favorite, but Xanadu was Ter i Schryers best of the worst. 1983s Yentl, starring Barbra Streisand, was Stephanie Panos best. Monty Python also brought out some very strong opinions. Bob Marselle picked Monty Sid Seidelman hated Caddyshack, which starred Chevy Chase and Rodney Dangerfield. Chevy Chases Under the Rainbow also made OLearys dog list. Richard Pryor made the dog list twice, for Dynamite Chicken, Karen McOmbers worst, and Superman III, which was Steve Hanlines favorite mutt. The best films picked are some of Hollywoods best. Gone with the Wind was Stacy Butters favorite; Hanline loved Star Wars ; Popich chose Casablanca (yea Mike!); Neidert picked The Best Years of Our Lives', Debbie Jenkins picked Dr. Zhivago', and Weston loved Raiders of the Lost Ark. I was also intrigued by some of the other films chosen. Ray Ownbey liked The Last Picture Show, Chris Crocker picked El Dorado with John Wayne, and Seidelman chose Being There, a great film starring Peter Sellers. The Canter-mil- e Ghost was Dennis McGarveys favorite, while television was represented by Brians Song, Karen McOmbers best. In retrospect, the variety of films in both categories made this survey an interesting and fun project to undertake. If any of you have a film youd like to nominate as best film or worst film ever, just drop off your list to the Forum office and, if enough come in, 111 have another list posted in Shaw Center. Its really wild to see what people like and dislike, especially when it all-ti- comes to movies. rvi between the United States and Czechoslovakia. I have no idea when ABC revealed the score during the telecast, since I could only watch the beginning, but I knew the score already since KSL sports supplied it as part of their 6 p.m. news broadcast. Of course, ABC knows its sitting well by having the Olympics and, in the February ratings sweep, they're hoping to outpace their two rivals. The rating war rages on. If you havent noticed, prime time viewing has made a dramatic, albeit temporary, improvement as the networks try for higher Nielsen Ratings and, ultimately, more revenue. ABC paid almost $90 million for the exclusive broadcasting rights to the Winter Olympics in Yugoslavia and certainly has the right to show them any way they want to. And, because of a large difference in time zones (16), there is no way they can show them live. After all, who in America would get up at three in the morning to watch the giant slalom? But I think ABC is making a mistake by pretending what they are showing on prime time is live. For example, on day two of the Olympics, sportscaster Jim McKay announced he wouldnt divulge any scores because he didnt want to lessen the excitement. Both films were immense box office draws and accounted, between them, for Best Picture, Best Actor, and Best Actress in 1982. ABC, preparing for their saturation Olympic coverage, ran something called My Mother's Secret Life. Surprisingly, On Golden Pond came in first in the matchup and My Mothers Secret Life came in second. Why Chariots of Fire did so badly is beyond me. With television, theres no accounting for taste.
