Show Page 4 Forum October 28, 1983 Two Editors Head Yearbook The Etosian, Westminsters yearbook, is assigned this year to the creative talents of Sheri Dearing and Kathy Neuschwander. Dearing was editor of the Etosian in 1983 and assistant editor in 1982. Neuschwander was editor of Bountig ful High Schools national yearbook in 1979 and layout staff editor of Bountifuls yearbook in 1978. rs, award-winnin- About having to share title of editor" this year, Dearing said, I was a little surprised at first. After I was interviewed, I was told I would be sharing the responsibility with Kathy. I had to rearrange my thinking a little, but later realized the load could be more easily carried by two." Both editors agree there are problems with being coeditors which they are still working on. No, we dont always agree on ideas and layout, Neuschwander said. Sometimes that works out in the end to the benefit of the Etosian, however, because when we have to compromise, we often come up with even better ideas. Associate Professor Ray Ownbey, yearbook adviser, said of the arrangement, It gives us comments and observations from two people instead of one and distributes the work load. It does, however, require tremendous cooperation on each editors part. or Both editors refused to comment on the theme selected for the yearbook this year. Thats the fun of looking forward to the Etosian each year. Everyone speculates on what the theme will be, Dearing said. That, however, may be the one thing we agree on." Both editors want to supplement their small budget with advertising from companies who want relatively inexpensive ads. well-don- editors want a much larger staff than Dearing had last year. Advertising sales people, printers, writers, photographers, layout help you name it, we need it, both editors agreed. They encouraged anyone willing to help with the project to contact them as soon as possible. A yearbook is something you keep forever. Everyone who shared in its production will always remember the part they played, Dearing said. And remind everyone to make certain their photograph is in the book, Neuschwander said. Sittings will be arranged in the near future for persons who didnt get head shots taken the first week of school. Production of this years Etosian will be completed by next August. Work is beginning now, and the two new editors agree that between now and August, theyll both have to work at a hectic pace despite having someone to share the load. Sheri Dearing and Kathy Neuschwander (left to right) share responsibilities as editors of the Etosian. CLASSIFIEDS Need help with your typing? For Let us do your typing for you. Changes Continued from page Flyers have been posted throughout the campus, asking for help from anyone who would like to work on the Etosian. Both 1 Cameron Evans, senior class rep., feels that the Prof. Studies students have been apathetic by not seeking to fill the two allocated positions in Legislative Assembly. No one from that school has communicated an interest in participating, said Evans, and that is why Evans argues for elimination of the schools representation in Legislative Assembly. Dean of Students, Debbie Jenkins, said she doesnt feel that it is apathy that keeps the Professional Studies students from participating in Legislative Assembly. Rather, it is due to prior commitments, said Jenkins. Another argument for elimination of Professional Studies representation was raised by Gary Kanski, representative of the School of Business; that is, that the students dont pay fees. Jenkins said, These students do pay fees and, therefore, they deserve representation. Assembly member, Dave Neidert said, that if students from the school are interested in becoming members of the Assembly, they should step forward; otherwise, the positions should be given to students who want them. Before the Legislative Assembly actually votes on whether to amend the and, thus, allocate the positions to students-at-largwill they get a signed statement from J ames Toomey, dean of professional studies, saying that the students in that school have no interest in participating and, therefore, the change should be made. Jenkins feels this communication between the Legislative Assembly and Toomey is a good idea because, in the past, there has been too little research before action is taken. The motion to amend the has been introduced to the body of the Assembly; but before it is voted upon, it must be at two more meetings. If the motion carries and the amendment passes, there will then be an opportunity for students interested in the positions to contact members of Legislative Assembly. All interested parties will be voted upon by Assembly members and, thus, the positions will be filled. Wall covering my specialty. Work guaranteed. Discount for holidays.
