Show September 23, 1983 Forum For a Westminster soccer team that is coming off a season with only two players returning from that team, there is only one place to go . . . up. Coach Ben Rodriguez will need the experience of veterans, Tom Ross and Hamid Sarshar; and transfers, Joel Hastings and Kurt Youngers, to guide eleven talented but inexperienced freshmen. The cornerstone of any soccer team is a good goalie; the Parsons have a superb one in Tom Ross. He was nominated to the Far-WeCollege All-Stto the NAIA VII team, Region Team and was Westminsters Player of the Year in 1982-8Helping Ross keep the ball away from the goal is Hamid Sarshar, the teams best defensive player from a year ago. University of Utah transfer Joel Hastings is the Ralph Sampson of soccer in that he is a team player and makes everyone around him better. Last year Kurt Youngers just missed making the Wichita Wings professional team and turned down scholarships from several schools to attend Westminster. With the optimistic support of the administration and the fans behind them (the crowd at Sundays exhibition game rivaled some of last years biggest), a successful season may be on the horizon; only time will tell. After the exhibition game against the U.S. Air Force national all-stteam (probably their coaches toughest opponent), which they lost on both sides had nothing but praise for the Par- Page 3 4-7- -4 st All-Americ- an ar 3. ar 4-- 1, sons.
