| Show SAN JOSE SCALE the san jose scale lias has been found in another orchard a little south of willard but inasmuch as the orchard is of little value the owners have decided to root up the trees and burn thim them there Is however too much Y vin indifference difference and carelessness among some of our owners of trees that are afflicted with some kind of pest or other in consequence of which ahi cli a good deal of suffering and loss is bound to ensue it Is too bad that people who are afflicted will not adopt the means prescribed to eradicate the all ii nent ent but persist in endangering the property of their neighbors and in fact the whole commonwealth there is no question but that the fruit industry I 1 takes the lead of all other industries in this part of the state and up to the last year or so the san jose scale his has never attacked our trees now that it has appeared in our midst no treatment should be regarded as too drastic in stopping its progress and eradicating it entirely it is of such a virulent nature that it must be met and grappled with just as soon as it makes its appearance it is not confined to any kind of fruit tree but attaches to shade trees bushes shrubbery and vee ve vegetation e of every kind we hope that the tree inspector will take every precaution in his power to protect orchards that are yet clean and that he will not allow any sentiment to interfere with the strict execution of the law governing his work |
