Show Utah Tax Collections Over Mark of Year Ago Utah State Tax Commission collections for the last nine months totalling $61.5 million are running 3.3 per cent ahead of the $59.5 million collected a year ago. H. C. Shoemaker, tax commission chairman, said Saturday that the report is too early to show a significant trend in the income tax collections because returns are being proccessed more slowly this year. The slowdown is occasioned in part because many taxpayers failed to send in the identification cards with their returns, he said. As of Friday afternoon 161,886 code-punch- returns had been processed yield- ing $6,960,273 compared with 164,883 returns yielding $6,951,471 last year at this time. We hope to have all turns filed by April of the re15 processed by May 20, Mr. Shoemaker said. Corporation franchise tax collections for the nine months have yielded $4.1 million, down 14.7 per cent from the $4 8 million a year ago. The drop is attributed largely to decreased metal mining activity. Sales tax collections for the nine months are $21.6 million, up 3.4 per cent over the $20 9 million a year ago. For the month of April the increase was 7.6 per cent. Only about half the returns for the first quarter of 1959 due April 30 are shown in this figure, however. VA this week urged veterans to keep their medical appoint ments with VA, whether it was for treatment in the clinic or for admission to the hospital. If unable to keep their appointment or to appear at the hos pital for admission when notified that a bed was being made available, the veteran should promptly notify VA so - another veteran might be scheduled for treatment or for admission to the hospital. By cancelling appointments or admissions when unable to keep them, the veterans not only enable the VA to make better use of its medical staff and facilities.
