Show the ir Thursday, Rodeo Activity Starts With Cleveland Show sun-advoca- Page Five te May 7, 1959 t The rodeo season is underway in this area and the first of such contests was staged at Cleveland, Emery county, Miy 2 sponsored by the Blue Ridge Riders and Blue Ridge Riderettes. Sponsors stated the show went off very well considering the inclement weather and the bucking stock was exceptionally good. Proceeds are to be used to install a lighting system for the rodeo arena at Cleveland. Winners in the various events were as follows listed in the order of placing: Saddle bronc riding Jim first followed by Kent Norton of Wellington and Frank Henderson, also of Wellington. Malencik then singled, driving home Soderberg. In the fifth inning with the bases loaded Irish Jerant was hit by a pitched ball thus forcing in Mike Stratton. Soderberg reached first on an error, then Notre Dame Second Baseman Malencik blasted a home run driving in three runs. The Irish picked up another run in the last inning while the Red Devils picked up their three tallies in the bottom half of that inning. Irish Hurler Nevenner went all the way for the Notre Dame nine allowing only three hits. Coach Bill Hickey, although pleased with the win, is still concerned over the lack of hustle and spirit shown on the part of the Irish ball club. Notre Dame meets tne winner of the Northern Division of Region 8 (Vernal) at the Helper Ball Park today to determine the winner of the Region 8 crown.
