Ritual Conducted for Sorority Pledges cereImpressive candlelight monies were held by Upsilon chapter of Beta Sigma Phi for pledges and new members at the home of Denice Mclntire Thursday, November 7. Before a table holding the lighted candles and a center piece of yellow roses, Gene Pappas and Donna Bolotas received their Ritual of Jewels degree. Following this, Joy Peterson conducted the pledging ceremony. As each member pledged her loyalty to the aims of the chapter she was presented with a pin. Those included in the pledge ritual were Colleen Peterson, Mae Olsen, Shirley Erd- lace by Dawna Miller, social chairman. The social committee, headed by Dee Davis, was in charge of the banquet arrangements. After the rituals, the group adjourned to the Price Cafe for a formal banquet. The bowl of roses was the decoration for the head table, with cornucopia baskets and fruit on the side tables. Each place was marked with a name card and a yellow rose. Emmy Wilson was mistress of ceremonies for the program, which consisted of talent numbers from the chapter membership. Denice Mclntire played her own composition, with the lyrics sung by Iva Lou Peterson. Kathleen Avenll read her poem, Autumn Thought and Joy Peterson sang The Man I Love, Dee Davis read a short story for which she received recognition in the Na. tional Beta Sigma Phi contest entitled "A Search for Eden. Shanna Mezek paid a tribute to Elvina Dart who resigned this year from the directorship of the chapter.
