The new law also clarifies and confirms VAs authority to make the final determination of reason able value of property, irrespective of the estimate of value made by an individual appraiser, VA said. New Law Extends Loan Program for Veterans A GI loan law, signed by the president this month, extends the World War II GI Loan program for one more year, to July 25, 1958. The program previously was scheduled to close July 25, 1957, and, under the wordings of the original law, all GI loans would have had to be closed by that date. Under the new law, any GI loan for which Veterans Administration receives an application by July 25, 1958, may be guaranteed or insured by VA if it is completed by July 25, 1959. The new law affects only World War II veterans, VA emphasised. Korean veterans have until January 31, 1965, to obtain GI .loans. In the 12 years that the GI loan program has been in operation, 4,466,000 World War II veterans have borrowed $33.2 billion in GI loans to purchase homes, farms and businesses, of which the VA has guaranteed or insured $17.9 billion. Veterans of the Korean conflict have borrowed $3.6 billion, of which VA has guaranteed $2 billion. This new law also will permit any veteran who sells residential property, purchased with a GI loan, to be relieved from lability to the Government under certain circumstances. MONEY AND BANKING In Everyday Living COSTLY AUTO ACCIDENTS: Does your budget provide for them? Most likely it doesn't but it probably does provide for medical costs; and it could be an economy, in the long run, to use a portion of the money so earmarked for a thorough eyesight examination, if you havent had one lately. Many driving dangers arise from eyesight defects, according to the Better Vision Institute. Prompt discovery of any such defects and prompt correction thereof, with proper eyeglasses may help you to avoid a smaihup. PERENNIAL VACATION QUESTIONS How much cash to carry on the vacation trip. The answer of many folks who have learned by bitter experience: No more than you can afford to lose." At home, you do not carry on your person all the money you expect to pay out over an extended period. Why do so on vacation ?
