Show THE Page Six PRICE PIONEER HAS 94TH BIRTHDAY Henry G. Mathis was honored on the occasion of his 91th birthday at a dinner given by his family at the home of his son, George, Sunfamily day, May 1. Twenty-fiv- e members wrere present. Mr. Mathis is one of the oldest living pioneers of Price, having come here in 1884. He has been active in many church and civic affairs during his long career. He taught school in the old log school-hous- e for a few years after coming to Price, taking carrots and other produce as tuition. He was then called on a mission to Germany by the LDS church and after his return became interested in farming and stock raising. He also managed the Farmers Exchange from 1912 until he retired in 1930. Mr. Mathis served in the LDS stake presidency for 25 years beginning his service before Carbon and Emery stakes were divided. He was also president of the MIA for many years. He served as sheriff of Carbon and Emery counties for several terms and always has been active in irrigation companies, acting both as president and member of the board. He enjoys good health and is still noted for his practical good sense and sound advice which residents of this area have come seeking for three generations. WOMEN OF MOOSE EVENTS Six women from Price attended the conference for the Women of the Moose held in Ogden Sunday, new memMay 1. Twenty-fou- r bers were initiated in Friendship and all five chapters of the region participated in the program. Salt Lake City, Ogden, Provo, Price and Helper clubs make up the group. Elsid Thomas, Margaret Reid, Kate Wilson, Nelda Kelley, Rhoda Pace and June Wilcox were the ladies who enjoyed the fine PRICE GIRL RECEIVES HONORS AT USAC Miss Joanne Fassio, daughter of Mrs. Glenda Fassio of Price, was among the graduates of the USAC to receive the Phi Kappa Phi awards presented by Dr. Blanih at a reception and convocation held at the school Sunday, May 1. To be eligible for this recognition, a student must be in the upper 10 per cent of his class in scholastic 1 w ,4 rating. Miss Fassion has also been active in extra curricular events at the Logan school. She will be featured with other members of the Chi Omega sorority in a dance to be presented at the Agathon to be held May 8. Mrs. Fassio plans to attend this outstanding event. Joanne will be graduated from the school of Home Economics and Family Living June 4. She plans to teach in the elementary schools in Carbon county next year.
