Show Thursday, December 24, 1953 THE Carbon Dry Ice Plant Undergoing Expansion The Carbon Dioxice and Chemical Company is engaged in a $150,000 expansion program at its Wellington carvonics plant, Arthur E. Goodman, vice president and general manager has reported. Made possible by completion of an 18 million cubic feet a day carbon dioxide well by Equity Oil Company on the flank of Farn-ha- m Dome southeast of Price, the expansion will up production of dry ice at the plant from 40 to 75 tons daily. Provision is made for a further increase in production to 100 tons daily, Mr. Goodwin said. Production from the new facility being erected by Sam Soter, Midvale will comcontractor, mence on April 15, Mr. Goodwin said. Mr. Goodwin said that from 60 to 70 piles are being driven into the ground at the new plant site. They go 30 feet into a "quaking formation. A substantial founda- tion is needed to handle the vibrations from the compressors and machines, he said. The number of presses has been increased from three to four. Foundations will be poured to provide for two more presses when product demand warrants. Eight more units, bringing the total to 24, have been added to scrubbing towers, Mr. Goodwin said. The Lang Company is contractor on this renovation. New ammonia condensers and "after coolers are being added to equipment at the plant as is a truck-traile- r weighing scale. The plant is served by a spur rail line. e In addition to dry ice, and Chemical produces liquid C02 for use as an explosive in coal mines and for carbon-atio- n Carbon-Dioxic- of beverages. Mr. Goodwin said that when the expansion is completed in April, his firm would be utilizing around 2 million cubic feet of carbon dioxide daily. Half of that amount will come from Equitys flank the remainder well at Farnham from three shallow wells owned and Chemical by Carbon-Dioxic- e on top of the structure. With Improvements "Thank God, there is still some reason to believe in the goodness of man, was the comment made today by Mrs. Ace Goodman in reporting on the return of a sled and bike that had been taken from her home at National which was destroyed by fire on November 29. The accused was found guilty of fatally shooting Mervyn Lowery, 22, in an Orangeville beer tavern fight on August 10. District Judge Fred W. Keller, who passed sentence, said he had no alternative in the matter but to decree the death penalty. The jury verdict had been brought in with no recommendations for lenDu-Boi- s, 12-m- ' iency. The sled was neatly repainted in orange and green and a new chain was installed on the bike. The letter concluded by wish-th- at children the Goodman would like the repainted sled. The fenders on the bike were shot, but here is a new chain, the letter concluded. It was signed Merry Christmas, The Culprit. Mrs. Goodman stated that she wishes to thank the person or persons who returned the articles and to especially thank them for the improvements. She added that she wants to thank those in Spring Glen and Price who contributed funds for her family. We have done this by throwing away all of this money in the form of traffic accidents in Utah this year. $20,000,000 is 1953s bill for these accidents that we, as individuals and as a body, could have prevented. This is the money we lost through property damage, by hospital and medical bills, by insurance payments, by lost wages and reduced earning capacity, and by numerous other factors which accompany these accidents.
