| Show J ua L sr postoffice Fost Post office department sends out circulars of instructions to patrons and carriers postmaster 13 F boothe has received tile the following letter from P V NIc mcgraw Graw fourth assistant postmaster general which affects the patrons of the rural delivery service in regard to depositing mail in their boxes 1 on and after july 1 1906 patrons of the rural delivery service will be inquired lequir ed to display signals on their boxes when they leave mail in them for the carriers to collect as after that date carriers when serving their routes mill not be required to open and examine exE any mail boxes except those to which they have mail to deliver and those on which signals a are e displayed to indicate there Is mail for carriers to collect 2 those patrons whose boxes are no not I 1 provided with signals must attach thereto some device which when displayed v A ill plainly show passing carriers there is mail to be collected it is ig not ne cesary that such de device vice shall be either complicated or costly a very simple arrangement will answer the purpose 3 carriers must lower lowel the signals ou on boxes after making collections provided no mail is left therein and must display the signals when they deposit mall mail for pa patrons troas unless the patrons have made to the contrary conti ti 4 the cal carriers carri eis must rius bic c i strutted ted to promptly inform patrons of their routes with begard to this order and ou should without expense to the department use such other necessary means for informing them as will secure a complete understanding and full compliance by all rations on the dite dale d ite mentioned |
