Alvin Carpenter, date of emergency farm labor. The extension service and U. S.' Employment service have been successful to date in supplying the de-- 1 mand for sugar beet labor throughout the state and most counties report that thinning is nearing completion. However, Mr. Carpenter points out that the need for sugar beet labor has been somewhat redueed this year due to a decrease in acreage and better .pacing id the beets. With many more men from rural areas entering the armed services this month and the haying and seasons coming on, Mr. Carpenter declares that more farm laborers will be needed if demands continue to be in the state big-g- er sup-ervis- or fruit-picki- 2olill unff IRRADIATED 4 DoAGE3roEiHEra!ci;cr2 ORANGES SEGO MILK 2aW c POUND PIERCES PTS. 23c CAN 46-O- Z. Utahs 5600 members and 600 leaders are this week completing plans for the fifth annual Rural Life Sunday to be observed throughout the state on June 27, reports Miss Fern Shipley, assistant state leader. The first presidency of the L. D. S. church has notified presidents of Utah L. D. S. stakes of the plan to set aside the last Sunday in June for club special services in which members will be featured. Officials of other churches have likewise expressed their willingness to cooperate in the plan, Miss Shipley states. Rural Life Sunday was first observed in Utah in 1937, following a visit of J. R. Hargraves of the Internationa Council of Religious education. This year during May and June more than 1,500,000 farm boys and girls enrolled in clubs will participate in special services emphasizing the reverential phase of club work. Last year in Utah 100 programs were presented in that many communities and 7,914 persons attended them. Miss Shipley reports that this year these 100 clubs and many more are planning to present a Rural Life program designed to develop a deep- er appreciation of the rural environ- -' ment on the part of both mem-- 1 bers and their families. 5 MINUTES. Most of the farmers are cooperating among themselves to share labor ar.d machinery, but more of the nonfarm labor is needed, according to the state supervisor. Older men and young boys will have to supply the bulk of this ,he declares. One of the most difficult problems facing both farmer and laborer is housing, explains Mr. Carpenter. Farmers are asked to cooperate as far as possible in supplying housing accommodations for their employees. n n fruit pectin x on your Auto . .
