King so that he may have his full time to snuggle up to the crowd whose interests he has been so considerate of during his congressional service. If Utah desires the type of service in a legislative line such as Senator King has given them they should elect a man like Reed Smoot to represent them at least there would then be an atmosphere of sincerity surrounding the service. The attitude of Senator King is inexcusable, resembling the sidestepping of a sideshow spieler who unlimbers a linguistical line seldom matching the subject of his singsong serenade. That amortization provision was interpreted during the Mellon regime so that it cost the government billions of dollars and the raid on the treasury was not stopped until the Senate, on the demand of the late Senator James Couzens of Michigan, investigated the Bureau of Internal Revenue. During the same debate naval officers told the Senate Committee on Naval Affairs that if existing profit limitation on ship and airplane builders of 12 per cent were reduced to 7 per cent, as the committee proposed, the incentive of the contractors would be threatened. ar . ei During recent debate in Congress on steps pointing toward adoption of an excess profits amendment in connection with the national defense expenditures a member stated that such a move would call for amortization provisions, causing a capitol city newspaper to editorialize of the Bingham Bulletin and a formB.
