That of the htate supreme court In arrivinirat its decision that construction of the Car!on college should jr forward ns intended hy the legislative body of the state government in certainly a pronounced "punch on the proljoscin for that little hand of political parasites who continue in their termitish way the endeavor to dictate and control every move in the state. That little fringe of fanatics on the lxsly politics of Utah, always endeavoring to Ik the "hull of the ring, must have w inced considerably when they read that jsjrton of the court decision which knocked into a cocked hat their pronouncement that Carlon college was entitled only to $150, 000 as a whole, including the federal contribution, any balance that was left to be applied to a fund for erection of a new state penitentiary. It is pleasant to know that the manipulations of that political domineering element will be relegated to the rear largely in Utah in the future through operation of the direct primary election system if the people will but exercise the opportunities which have been accorded them through this new candidate selection method. GUEATEK CAUTION NECESSARY DANGER lies in the continued policy of the United States of failing to remove its armed forces from foreign lands where open warfare is operative even though that warfare does not have the sanctioning of the participants as "de- clared. The fact that the aggressor nations in those foregn wars resort to the technical policy of failing to "declare a war in actual operations despite the fact that thosuands are being killed by their soldiers indicates the hypocrisy of such governments, and is but weightier demonstration naof the necessity for tions to eliminate as much as possible all contacts with them. Continuation of the policy of keeping our war equipment in the district where warfare is under way is almost certain to lead us into trouble. The United States should stand ready at all times to protect its own interests and defend itself but it should at the same time exercise great caution in placing itself in a position where it cannot be forced into unnecessary difficulty which might lead to another mess like the late World War, a conflict which cost the lives of thousands of young men and billions of dollars unnecessarily so far as this nation is concerned. The United States does not want war, that is without question the reflected desire of the people. And the government should exercise policies that will assure carrying out of those desires. honest-and-above-boa- rd na-J.- IMj.-itio- g roil t rt. l T A A rOMTICAL - W lib 8 TorsdaV a'-au- l! CooUcr I'aity f, r t-- CLEAR CREEK NEWS AS FIGHT RESULT coo Jersey GOVERNOR Harold Hoffman of New . is one of those darlings of the Tories, n miles i tax governor. He promoted and put over a .sales it until the peo j tax in hi.s state and maintained direct the primary selected candi-- j pie through dates for a legislature which repealed the uneco-- ; g tax levying .scheme. nomie Ibffman is one of those public payroll pensioners, always looking out for Harold when it comes to political patronage. Of course, he is aided and ain't ted by those whose economic interests he has so ably protected, the Tories. The Jerseyite is in his way a somewhat ill- teresting character and so it should le curiosity- to sort of take him apart and soe just satisfying t3X politician! titkSa Not so lonp ii since he referred to the unemployed of his state as being "too smart to work, a smart crack he made with respect to those on relief. His term as governor is about to expire. Practically all of his mature life has been spent on the business connecting end of the public payroll and so it would never do that he should be shunted to the unemployed group. During his term of office he appointed the Unemployment Compensation Commission for administration of the measure on behalf of those w ho are out of work. And just the other day this commission announced that "Governor Hoffman has been asked to serve as its executive director as soon as his term as governor expires in January and at a salary of $12,000 a year. An additional rub was added to this just the other day when the Unemployment Compensation Commission announced that the salary for the position was being boosted to $15,000 a year this action following after a gentle hint by Harold that the $12,000 was not as fat a stake as he might acquire in other channels of employment. Bearing in mind that wise crack about being "too smart to work and combining it with the fact that Hoffman appointed all of the members of the Unemployment Compensation Coommis-sio- n which has extended to him the offer of new the job one might get the idea that Harold dumb himself. so not is So thats how a salei tax governor ticks. !L.MhtK TlH-hMiy- 31 n r OIL i ANOTHER IN JAIL : i.a-lin- war-favorin- r ONE IN HOSPITAL, li-pa- rt ri against Martin Blanc, Price, Mrs. Gamier alleges in the co.n- plaint that the plaintiff beat her with his fists about the head and body, and exand actual $1,000 Asking $2,500 injured one of her eyes. The h'tate J)partnient Uys are the ones who do the talking atjut war not the fighting. They occupy very much the same jmsitlun in govern mental fields as do the loksmakrrs in the racing world they manipulate the betting arrangement and do not ride tile horses. It is high time that the jienple who fight the wars should have something to say alut declaring them. To long have the warmakers and their profiteering hangerson supjrters, always willing to wrench the last drop of bl i from the lody of any human except their own if they can squeeze a profit out of it, had the dictatorial sayso concerning war declaration. The I.udlovv war referendum provides for projM-steps in case of the need for a defensive n on the part of our nation. The Ludlow measure is a good one, it provides the governed with an opportunity of a direct expression in mutters which are vital to the people themselves, and it should Ik passed in Spite of the whoop-ing- s State Department. of the JT was Of Th.
