TOURNAMENT TOLD Price citys annual music festival, which has brought this community more nationwide fame and publicity than any other enterprise, may be discontinued next year unless arrangements can be made for facilities to house the hundreds of visiting participants. A statement to this effect was issued Wednesday by contest officials, who declared that the housing problem has become more serious each year and that different arrangements than have heretofore applied must be made if the festival is to be perpetuated. It was suggested that barracks be constructed with a view to making the contest a permanent project, and it is likely that steps will be taken toward securing the erection of buildings that may be used as sleeping quarters. Price is now firmly established as the leading student music center in the nation, and leaders in the contest movement feel that it would be unwise to discontinue the event, which has been held here for seven consecutive years. Now that national contest activity is conducted on a regional basis, instead of having one tournament for the entire United States, the Price festival is generally recognized as the largest and best in the country. This is indicated in a statement rethis ceived by The week from Henry Fillmore of Cincinnati, who served as chief judge of the 1937 contest. The noted composer declared that he saw four bands which are the best in the nation and that the maneuvers during the parade were the best he had ever witnessed. Mr. Fillmore did not identify the bands, but his assertion nevertheless of the pays high tribute to the quality Frice contest.
