Show THE PAGE TWELVE enter HELPER AND VICINITY H Band Preparing For Contest With the regional band festival in Price only a week off, the Helper band is rapidly rounding into marching form by practicing every afternoon during the week. Although the marching unit is not expected to live up to previous achievements, the orchestra seems to be as good as any presented in former years. Eugene Reed is director of n this years band while James was recently selected to act as drum major. II Dredging Virtually Completed The dredging of the Price city river channel through Helper has been virtually completed and almost full flood control has been established in Helper. The work has been carried on under city supervision for almost three months and the course of the river through the city has been made as straight as existing conditions will allow. Actual dredging was effected through the use of a borrowed steam shovel. Kersh-berge- H Cooking School Planned The first annual Helper cooking school for housewives of the county will be held Friday and Saturday, May 7 and 8. The school, sponsored jointly by several Helper business firms in order to introduce modern cooking methods and equipment into the average home, will be under the supervision of Mrs. Jeanette Neldon, home service supervisor for the Utah Power and Light company at Provo. William F. MacKnight will preside at the opening of the school on both dates and will handle all arrangements towards presenting short programs during the instruction course. Several other food, experts in Utah have also signified that they will be on hand to present short discussions on cooking. Among the highlights of the school will be the several cooking and baking contests to be held. Judging of all cooking entries will be done Saturday as well as the awarding of prizes to the winning entrants. Over $100 in prizes will be awarded during the show, including a $25 electric roaster and many assorted baskets of food. It is also planned to present demonstrations on the proper use of new electrical appliand ances for home use. The correct use of baking utensils will be especially stressed. One of the added attractions of the school will be the fashion review to be presented on Saturday night. All events will be held in the Liberty hall in Helper. ultra-mode- KENILWORTH NEWS Railroad NEWS OF Students Plan Trip Saturday The tenth grade students of the Helper junior high school plan to take a field trip to Timpanogos cave this Saturday, according to Principal W. H. Wardell. The students have been planning the excursion for some time and have promoted several projects throughout the year in order to finance the trip. It is planned to take equipment for various athletic activities and many students have signified they will try their luck at swimming for the first time this year.
