According to B. P. Manley, executive secretary of the Utah Coal Operators association, a decision adverse to Utah shippers would have meant a $150,000 increase in the cost of coal from this state to customers north of McCammon, Idaho, and on (into Oregon and Washington. The. denial of the petition, which was filed in January, continues in force a ruling of the commission which became effective December 24 and which reduced the advantageous Mon- 40-ce- nt 8CN-ADV0- GIRL SCOUT NEWS CITY PROFITS $130 COMMERCE BOARD freight differential enjoyed by Wyoming mines over Utah mines. A previous petition of Utah operators for abolishing the Wyoming advantage was the subject of a long hearing before the commission in July, 1935. At its conclusion, a reduction in differential was ordered. Replying to a claim made by Wyoming interests that the differential did not work against Carbon county operators, Mr. Manley filed a brief showing that the volume of Utah coal shipped into Idaho, Oregon and Washington decreased from 66 per cent of the total to 40 per cent between 1929 and 1934. At the same time, he point ed out, Wyoming shipments to the same region dropped only nine per cent. 10-ce- nt Under The Trefoil.
