Roosevelt had canceled the jamboree because of an E pidemic cf infantile paralysis in the section. The Scouts who had planned to attend were Jack Walsh. Lewis Arnold and Quentin Gardner of Price and Clyde Tidwell of Wellington. They were to have been accompanied by Willard E. Laker, Price Scout leader. The jamboree was scheduled for August 21 to 30, and the Utah boys had arranged for a special train, on which the Carbon Scouts would have made the trip. An interesting itinern. ary had been arranged. The decision to cancel the jamboree was reached at a White house conference Thursday ,at which reports were considered from health officers of Maryland, Virginia and North Carolina. While the epidemic was not considered to be unduly alarming, the 'conferees decided it would be to the best interests of all concerned to can'd the jamboree, it wras stated at thp Vhite House. White House aids sought to emphasize also that the cancellation was not regarded as cause for alarm, but rather as a safeguard movement.
