Show r I if 2 The Salina Sun Wednesday, May 19, 1993 Candace Mason receives Windwalkers scholarship award Recipient of the 1993 Governor's Vocational Technical Excellence Scholarship Award, a one-yetuition waiver, and the opportunity to compete in a final interview for the Excellence Award, a plaque and $100 cash, is Candace Mason, of Aurora. Twelve seniors throughout the state competed for the honor, and Candace was one of the top four chosen to receive this award. Candace is enrolled at Sevier Valley Applied Tech College, in Advanced Computed Management Training. First Place: Ryan Williams and Brock Rasmussen. Second place: Melinda and Aleeca Bessendorfer and Holly Ann Taylor. Third place: Amber Williams, Jodi Coates, and Brandy Madsen. Fourth place: Autumn Rasmussen and Anya Nielson. Fifth place: Krista Keisel, KayCee Nielson. Seventh place: Ashley Burr. Eighth Place: Launa Learning. Craig Thurston named to 'Whos Who is Sports' Bosshardt family earns awardshonors Craig Thurston has been selected to this years edition of "Who's Who in Sports" for excellent performance as one of the nations outstanding athletes in the High School Division 1992-9Craig is a Senior at North Sevier High. He has been active in football and wrestling all four years of high school. He was captain for the football team and wrestling team this year. He did a great job in both sports. He plans to attend college in the fall. Craig is the son of Denny and Susan Thurston, of Aurora. 3. Ann Bosshardt It was announced recently that Ann Bosshardt has been accepted ta Whos Who Among American High School Students. This is a very since honor, prestigious only 5 of the students from our nations 22,000 high schools are honored in Whos Who each year. Ann is a Sophomore at North Sevier High, and is a daughter of Neal and Marcia Bosshardt. She is the Granddaughter of Milo and June Bosshardt, Redmond, and Arlen and Shcron Madsen, Salina. are Phillo and Myrle Madsen, Salina, and Fawn Harward, Aurora. ts Darryl Bosshardt, a student at North Sevier Middle School has been nominated for the National Award in Science. This award is an honor very few students can ever hope to attain. The Academy recognizes less than 10 of all American High School Students. Darryl was nominated for the award by his Science teacher, Mr. Jim Torgersen. The Academy selects USAA winners on the exclusive recommendation of teachers, coaches, counselors, or other school sponsors and upon the standards of selection set forth by the Academy. Criteria include a students academ ic perform- ance, interest and aptitude, leadership qualities, responsibility, enthusiasm, motivation to learn and improve, citizenship, dependability, plus the recommendation from a teacher or director. She spent Mothers Day with them, and was also able to attend the graduation ceremony from the University of Phoenix, where her daughter, LaRue Poulsen Taylor graduated with a masters in Education Counseling. LaRue and her husband, Rick live in Orem and she teaches sixth grade at Maser Elementary, Provo. Lori and Gery Rawlinson have had visitors including Gerys mother and and Loris parents Billie and Hyram Humphreys, of step-fathe- r, Summit. Trisha Johnson spent Friday and part of Saturday in Provo attending the State Track meet where the girls from North Sevier took fourth. She spent some time with Leslie and Jeff Christensen and daughter, Kay-li- e. Leslie returned to Redmond with Trisha and Jeff and Kaylie picker her up Saturday afternoon. Relief Society held its monthly homemaking meeting Tuesday evening. A lesson was given by Norma Roberts and then Ronald Anderson, of Skyline Nursery, Centerfield, instructed the ladies on yard care. A large crowd was in atten dance Sunday for the mission report of Carolyn Larsen. A family dinner was held at the Larsen home after the meeting. Cami Wilkins spent the weekend visiting her parents, Carla and Kendyl Wilkins. Spending the weekend with Meryl Hansen has been her son and family, Valerie and Terry Hansen, of Midvale. There were some changes made in the scouting program Sunday. Bonnie Andreason was sustained Blazer leader, and Camille Sorensen was sustained Bear Leader. Visiting with Que and Mathel Mickelsen has been their daughter, Norma Streadbeck, and son. Willis and Anna Hales and UDell and Jean Johnson were in Vernal this weekend to attend a Square Dance Jamboree. The Town held its annual Cleanup Day, Saturday. Many volunteers helped plant flowers, pull weed and cut lawns, as well as other projects. A dinner was held at Noon for all who had helped in any way.
